I did it. It took all my willpower but I did it. I finished DokiDoki.

How was this season so bad? How did this garbage year of precure get created. This is the 10th season I watched. I've not liked all of them but none have made me this mad. Nothing about it is fundamentally wrong, it just fails at execution of everything. Its worse than seasons that just don't try, I can still enjoy the characters and fights then. To try like this but suck so bad is just unacceptable.

It tries to have this grand mythology but none of it makes any sense or fits together at all. It can never decide what to do with Regina. Ace shows up and somehow is just accepted? Sword was supposed to be part of some kind of Precure army and is ok with this random girl suddenly talking about 5 precure vows? She doesn't have any memories, how does she know these vows? What the fuck is it about Ai being her partner? Why did the king selfishness need a psyche if he became more powerful and not tied down by love on his own? If he was weak without it why could he overcome Bel? Why do we never see Joe fucking grieve about his dead fiance? Why do all the filler "lets learn a lesson today" episodes suck? What are the fairies? How and why where Heart, Diamond, and Rossetta's fairies born? Did they ever even show Cure Empress actually defeating the evil? How was it sealed? Nothing makes sense and it'd be nice to just ignore it but than the whole finale hinges on all the mythology.

I can't even image, how bad was it to have to try to like this while it was still airing?

Mana was such a force of nature for her ridiculous character and memeability that it was pretty easy to laugh all the bullshit off. If Mirai were something as ridiculous as that, I'm sure /pc/ would be laughing off Maho too. There's also this weird apologia that goes around sometimes about "at least it dared to do something different".

But yes, it was a trainwreck. It tries to keep secrets but doesn't give any payoff in its reveals. It's so poorly planned that multiple viewings don't reveal layers, as an unfolding plot should, it just reminds you of what went wrong.

I actually liked a lot of these episodes. They're stupid, but I think Precure excels in them. They're definitely more fun than the stupid comfy/cute episodes Maho has so many of.

I think HaCha was an even worse season than Doki though. Just as big of a plot mess as Doki, if not worse. Joe was okay-ish to me, HaCha has Blue, who is an outright villain dressed up as a good guy. It has even worse QUALITY than Doki. Doki has some potentially good characters, if underutilized, HaCha has shit like Yuuko, who is the fucking biggest waste of a cure out of any season. Then they tease us with things like the international cures and form changes that they did nothing with (they practically don't even fight in the form changes other than maybe a few instances which are extremely short). Then we have Megumi's shitty love triangle, that no one cares about or wanted, hijack a good portion of the second half. I'll take Doki any day over HaCha.

I'm not sure I agree that HaCha's plot was as big a mess as Doki. It might've been lame and not terribly interesting but it was fairly clear and at least heavily character-driven. Doki's put the search for the princess front and center and it was just awful from wall to wall. Yuuko may be useless, but Aguri was outright poison and dragged everything down. I agree with you about the international cures (who really only existed to job to Phantom) and the form changes being a waste. And neither ending could've paid me to care.

Maybe worth mentioning, but I wouldn't call HaCha's fight scenes good, but it had great 3-second moments all over the place. Kind of a spotfest, I guess you could call it.

I don't think Aguri was best girl, that's Rikka in my opinion, but I think the part of the show when she came in and Regina was gone was the best because Regina ruined Doki Doki.

I know I'm late but I just want to say the premise of Mirai and Riko unable to transform makes me wish it'll be like that GoPri episode where they infiltrated the castle to get their perfume back. Also I love the idea of Felice protecting them, like she's all grown up now and puts her mothers' well-being in front of her own. I can just imagine a standoff where she fights a big bad as Mirai and Riko hesitantly continue towards Mofu.

No. MH seems to get a pass for some reason by some people because it's still kind of part of the first season. But I honestly enjoyed watching Doki and even Maho more than I do MH. The ending wasn't bad, though it was certainly better than some of them. Really middle of the road to me.

I used to hate her but I've mellowed on Mana a bit, but I still think they messed up by making her about her confidence instead of her generous spirit. She was the closest thing that Precure has had so far to a spirit of boundless, unconditional love and that would've been a far more interesting contrast to selfishness than the Mana we got.
