My bet would be on aliens, because tentacle lady acted really high and mighty, even though they're losing badly right now. And even though they're losing, she was really in a hurry to melt Onii and Imouto into mana. This implies it's not a life or death fight for her.

I really hope it's not VR. I didn't have high hopes for this show, and it's getting good. I hope they don't kill it with "nothing really happened, you just all got stuck in Sword Art Online". Well, it's a1 Pictures. Their purpose in life is to churn out a huge number of anime and hope some of them stick. I don't know if I should be sad or mad about this. Their offer was probably the lowball offer, and all they could afford.

The project itself reminds me of Chaos Dragon - how famous writers sat together, got drunk, and thought this was a good idea. Interestingly the CD anime also made the edgelord their main character.
The anime probably had to be this way. If all three of them are going to write this together and each of them expects the others to keep working on it, then it needs to take off fast. They can't risk that one of them won't be popular and maybe can't afford an anime.

It's like after SAO everyone just kind of decided to throw all the things they want to make into popular multimedia IPs or just simply to market at A-1 but I swear the things that get a popularity bump or become popular after getting an A-1 adaptation have largely been in spite of A-1 not because of them. >It's been a week since the outing of Hotaru's gender and she's switched on over to wearing the girl's uniform tailored for her. Fake Hotaru comes over and gets pissy with the real one over how she's been handling Hime's assasination. She tells her to get her shit straight and kill the Hime.
>At the same time Hime comes around to give her the sword but she stops at the door when she overhears what the two are talking about.
>Next day Hime calls Hotaru out to the outskirt ruins. The latter doesn't know what's it about but realizes this would be her last chance to take Hime out so prepares for that in mind. When she gets there Hime confronts her about whether or not she's there to kill her.

"...what are you trying to do?"

Then Hime suddenly rushes her forcing Hotaru to deflect it just barely. Hotaru's taken aback by how at home she is with the new sword but regains her composure when pushes Hime back.

"Fufu... Haha! Ahahahahah! Amazing! You're really amazing Shino! Really. Strong!"

"...hm"

"Yeah, yeah! This is a first for me! I was right to want you Shino!"

"Don't spout nonsense."

"I'm not kidding around! Yup... I like you! A lot! I like you Shino! So how about it? Let's fight together! You and me, let's protect this city! With you around we'll be strongest ones around!"

>Hime's still rushing her with her sword as this goes on. Hotaru attacks but Hime catches the projection with her teeth. Hotaru can't act while Hime holds it so she disables it and gets out of the way of one of Hime's energy slashes
>Hotaru asks Hime what she saw in her dream and Hime tells her that she was just there in a happy world with her parents and Hotaru-chan. Hotaru is shocked by that plain dream because it means Hime's power is just pure lifepower/aura.
>Hime asks Hotaru what she saw in return saying it's unfair that she be the only one to tell but she just dismisses her request as she can't recall herself. This triggers pain in her head.
>Hotaru blocks a swing and uses it to fall back away into the air. She targets a building's windows and rains glass all over Hime. It distracts her but the true goal was to use her 2nd technique and target Hime with a 360 degree attack on her from every angle using the reflections. Hime spins around with her sword held up super fast to block it but Hotaru gets some in and Hime's arm is bleeding
>Hotaru gasps at the sight but doesn't know why she's freaking at seeing Hime get hurt. Hime takes this opening to charge at her.
>"You really are kind Shino. But is this really the time for you to be worrying about someone else?"
>Hime swings down an charged slash at her. Hotaru shrinks away from it but only feels the attack barely graze her hair as it destroys the rubble behind her.
>Hotaru realizes that Hime did that on purpose and takes the chance to CQC the sword out of her hand and her down to ground.
>Hotaru stabs her sword down but it landed right next to Hime's head. Hime didn't do anything to dodge it.
>Both are panting from the fight and Hotaru notices something odd landing on Hime's loveable face. It was her own tears and it took some time for her to realize that she was crying. Hotaru's confused about what's going on with her and takes off since for some reason she just couldn't bear to let Hime see her in that state.

That plant in the beginning was super silly. Supposed to be scary or what?

>Over at Kanagawa admin, Aoi who is disappointed that Hotaru isn't the type to handle paperwork with her runs into the stalkers. They feign illness when it seems like she wants to ask for their help but assures them she doesn't harbour any delusions of them doing so.
>They've been looking for Hime and Hotaru and the obvious conclusion that they're with each other doesn't hit them until Aoi suggests that. The stalkers jump to conclusion that Hotaru's kidnapped her and was now having her way with Hime though Aoi doesn't see why they'd think that now that they know Hotaru's a girl.
>The two of them suddenly look like they got electrocuted and pass out. Aoi follows suit in a few moments of confusion.
>Hotaru hides out in a ruined building as the headache gets stronger. She struggles with the gaps in her memory. She remembers a line about not leaving Hime alone or she'll get scared. She recalls back to her earliest memory - her waking up in the medical ward to the fake Hotaru introducing herself as Hotaru and that she wants to be her friend. Hotaru puts 2 and 2 togther and heads out to resolve things.
>Fake Hotaru over at cafe talking to one of her "friends" about the Hime's and Hotaru's whereabouts. She learns that while Hotaru is missing Hime was spotted over at the outskirts at the her and Hotaru's bench. She gives the friend the release command but it seems to glitch out when it doesn't work. She feels a little embarassed at trying to walk away cooly at the first attempt and tries it again. It takes this time.

>Hime's reminiscing about the past on the bench while her arm heals. They can speed up healing with their Aura/lifepower but Hime's still feeling it. She thinks back to Hotaru's performance in their prior mock battle and to the real one. The new sword made a world of difference in terms of battle power and Hime believes that if Hotaru really did go in for the kill she'd be dead by now.
>Hime's been feeling like her heart's being squeezed since she saw Hotaru cry at the end of their fight. Hotaru's strong to be a city head herself elsewhere but that's not the only reason she wants Hotaru. When she saw Hotaru cry, it saddened her too. Thinking that she might be the cause of that makes her own heart ache. She wants her for that.
>Hime hears footseps coming up from behind her. It's fake Hotaru and she calls out to Hime. She says it's been a long time and Hime asks who she is. She answers that she's Hotaru but Hime can't see it being her. She mentions that it's been 29 years and that's when Hime realizes that it's their other friend, Marika or Mari-chan as Hime calls her.
>Hime face brightens up and she runs over to her. She remembers that Marika and Hotaru were in the same coldsleep section and asks if she knows anything. Marika reaches to touch Hime's cheek but Hime jumps back in time before her pendulum weapon could cut her throat.
>Hime asks her why just tried that and Marika goes yandere her hogging her Hotaru. She explains that she's always hated Hime's guts for always sticking around Hotaru says it's fine now because she went to a lot of trouble to be Hotaru. She says it'll all be good once Hime's out of the picture.
>Hime warns her if she takes it any further it won't be considered a joke since she is a city head. Marika calls her nice for letting so much slide but tells her that just made her sick and calls Hime a whore that needs to drop dead.

I think it's aliens have somehow been driven into a corner.

The shield around the cities keeps them somewhat safe and is the area their perception tech reaches. From flashbacks we've seen the adults do not age and at times don't seem to see the 'aliens'.

The aliens are kids that escaped or were 'retrieved' by the humans outside. We've never seen bodies and those 'prods' were incredibly accurate even perfectly landing on RUNNING targets without the need to adjust trajectory. The pods are some sort of collection mechanism to retrieve kids and bring the back to humans. Hime was clearly fighting bard girl, aliens could be human soldiers or machines.
