With Deen it probably would have been kind of ugly, but that would still be so much better than the inconsistent yet still consistently bad factory that is A-1 Pictures.

You probably haven't watched enough of their adaptations. Save for maybe Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, their adaptations follow the same trend as their original works.They tend to start out strong and then implode at around the halfway mark. They skip key moments, jump around to different parts of the source material that have make them disjointed an hard to follow. One of the offenders that sticks with me the most is Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin, but there have been numerous A-1 shows that suffered from this. I don't know how people could enjoy Boku dake ga Inai Machi given that these issues amplified everything wrong with the already much worse second half of the story.

Plus with as many shows they pump out every season the quality of the animation suffers. We don't get ugly cute designs like with a lot of Deen's newer stuff, we just get really samey, middle of the road, and generally poorly animated characters.
