I would gladly wait another 8 years for 4.0 if Anno would scrap 3.0 from the canon and remake it with what we were shown at the end of 2.0

To me the New Theatrical Editions are just nice treats. We already have a pretty much perfect version of Evangelion in the series + EoE.
The NTE are just a different take on things, more supplemental.

I hope Anno takes as long as he needs to do the ending justice.
