But Avdol's fortune-teller aesthetic and detailed clothing are part of the reason why Magician's Red works as a design, anon. It's the idea of Stands as true extensions of a user's fighting spirit.

A giant, muscular angry bird on fire immediately contrasts with Avdol's puffy, well-dressed ethnic appearence. It acts as a manifestation of power, and the savagery of flames. And at the same time, a Stand that looks Egyptian (the fusion between an animal's head and a man's body) and has powers related to flames is a perfect fit for an Egyptian man who acts as a magician (Polnareff even draws attention to this when he says that the world began in flames and it fits that Avdol, the first Stand user to show his Stand, has flames as his ability).

Magician's Red has the same idea behind it that Star Platinum and the Pillar Men in Part 2 had: the juxtaposition of mystical elements of gods with a mundane aspect to it. It would look more visually appealing if it were wearing jewelry and it would make the connection to Horus more obvious, but that's not what Araki was going for in the first place. He wanted to represent the Stands as a savage, untamed manifestation of a person's fighting spirit, and that's why he had Magician's Red, the most organic looking Stand, be the first one, and have it fit the character of Avdol.

You can't just simplify Stand designs based on first glances. Araki puts a lot of thought into them.

I'd say in part 4 the main character was the town and the people in it and Gio was the least interesting member of his crew, I can barely remember anything he did while I definitely can for Bruno, Mista and Narancia so i wouldn't say he's the actual main as far as Araki's concerned.

I like this theory in theory, but it just looks too much like a chicken to me, maybe if it had a more wild appearance, maybe a big feathery tuft on its head. And the furry pants it has in some versions look more American Indian god than Egyptian.

I think Araki just didn't quite get into designing stands at the time when he made it, it doesn't really fit with the others.
Star Platinum came right after and does look pretty damn awesome, but is also pretty much a recolored Bruford.

If Araki hadn't put this thought into Magician's Red he wouldnt have Polnareff literally draw attention to this fact in the first place.

A lot of people underestimate just how much Araki thinks about Stand design, but if you listen to him in interviews he talks about all types of inspirations. Yokai, folk tales, mythology from several different regions, aboriginal clothing and dolls, etc. Araki has a bad memory for events and plot consistency but he knows his shit when it comes to design.

Good shit, but MR doesn't really have an unique, odd design, it's a red chicken man and while it doesn't look like the other stands it's because it's the only one who looks like it would fit in any other story.
I really don't like it visually, but I appreciate your enthusiasm. This artist does make it better because it has a longer neck and more feathers.

Also apparently the om hand symbol he keeps repeating doubles as his mangaka sign and has a blister on a finger signifying overuse of pen sometimes, but don't hold me on that because I can't find where I read that.

I love part 5, but it easily had the worst motivation to go after the bad guy and the least distinction between good and evil. The latter isn't a bad thing, in fact the moral ambiguity was one of the things I loved about part 5.
