No, the dub is shit too, but the Japanese voices are plain miscast. Kenshin's voice doesn't even try to sound male, Sanosuke's voice is far too calm, Shishio sounds like some generic unthreatening subordinate, etc.

I kind of wish it never happened. The OPs and EDs are nice but aside from that I think it's overrated to a ridiculous degree. The manga is the best version, but the Brotherhood fans are so vocal that threads are always comparing '03 and Brotherhood on their own, as if Brotherhood is a 100% accurate adaptation and the name is synonymous with saying "the FMA manga."

No, I'm disappointed that people default to Brotherhood and not the manga because the best version of the story is right fucking there and they can't be assed. I wouldn't mind it if this anime were better than the manga it was based off of, but in this case it isn't and so I think it's a shame.

I personally think there should be less of an expectation that every manga will get an anime adaptation, and the assumption that every anime is an adaptation of a manga. If the anime turns out better than the manga, cool, awesome. But to me it seems like too many people read a great chapter and think "this'll be even better animated!" - the problem being the mindset that animation is always the "upgrade" from manga or that manga is nothing more than a draft for what an anime will look like. It makes me feel terrible for the manga authours and artists.

Also I think it's worth mentioning that I'm an animation student of all things.

It was a great anime. I don't fucking care about "they didn't adapt everything though", because only the beginning stuff was good (but unnecessary) and the ending was ridiculous.

3 kings COULD have been great; the anime did... maybe average level of quality for it.

Whenever I read the earlier chapters again I do think I might've preferred the "detective" concept and the fights being on a smaller scale. But even some of the "mission" stuff was pretty fun/enjoyable to watch, like the castle (though later on it did get a bit silly) and going to rescue Yukina.

The Dark Tournament (and the 3 kings tournament, though I never got that far in the anime, only the manga) might've been the wrong direction to go in. They handled the idea of a tournament in a stadium well, but if it weren't for the characters I would have never bothered to stick around.

Also I want to mention the anime gets points for keeping it's art consistent, since the manga starts decreasing in quality later on and downright plummets at the end, only being scribbly, inky messes with little to no backgrounds even in the final published volumes. It hurt my heart to look at what it became.

I don't think there are that many of these kinds of posters. There are a lot of plebs here, but even so I think most FMA fans on /a/ understand that you need to have seen '03 in order to fully appreciate Brotherhood, regardless of their preference in series.

Original Toei series lacks the teeth that the manga has and the art style is terrible.

Duel Monsters is too card heavy, doesnt adapt the tone properly, screws the pacing, doesnt write out certain characters properly, is fillered to fuck and changes a lot about the ending.

It's funny how much they added cards into the Memory World arc when they are barely touched til the end of the manga.

I liked the Toei series even though it was a loose adaptation and was censored/changed for the kiddies. They really nailed the voice actors particularly with Megumi Ogata as Yugi/Yami and I loved the soundtrack and although it was filler I liked how they expanded Miho's role...she was a better character than fucking Anzu imo
