In a really fucked-up way, Baki Dou is keeping me guessing all the time. I mean, how the fuck is this going to end? If Memetobe wins, I seriously have no idea what the point of this thing was. Itagaki just randomly deciding that his most inconsequential side character ever (aside from Baki in Baki Dou, obviously) is now the strongest and can slap literal superhumans to death? There would be literally no point to it.

On the other hand, if Musashi wins, why the fuck was Motobe hyped to that extent? Literally what would be the point of suddenly making Motobe some sort of an ultimate master ninja who can insult Yujiro to his face and get away with it?

It's like this fucked up anti-hype battle. Instead of both of the outcomes being plausible and implying something awesome, either outcome will just drag the series into more pointless bullshit. I want neither of them to win.

I don't want Musashi to win because this shit has gotten boring. And I don't want Motobe to win because fuck Motobe and the way Itagaki is force-feeding his legitimacy down the readers' throats. I want Yujiro to come in and literally kick them back to Edo period so they can wank over weapons and ARTS OF WAR there.

The last arc was full of thoughts. I have absolutely no intentions of claiming that the Oliva and Pickle arcs had any real thought-provoking material, but the Yuujiro arc did. Even before the fight, too - like the return of Kuriyagawa and the ensuing conversation.

Maybe it doesn't all come through as clear in translation, but I'll be damned if at least the "everyone watching" speech didn't make you think a little bit. If you pay attention, Yuujiro doesn't even try to hit Baki while he's thinking out that speech. It's depressing as hell, imo.
