Attention S.T.A.L.K.E.R. !249JSUpBDk

It looks like you forgot the omake chapter for Ashita wa Doyoubi v01. I only have the 1200px ebook rip, so perhaps you have it in better quality.

>>
>>146406253
Much longer than the normal chapters. I think it's actually a oneshot from before it was serialized.
>>
>>146406419

Cool. I like it when volumes include the author's early works or prototypes.

I think the TL is in Japan, though, so he probably wont see this unless he checks /a/ first thing in the morning.

End.

Now, to explain why I did this. I was curious as to how the Korean translations and the Japanese raws compare as the JPN>KR>EN threads from before were way too different from the finalized Habanero scans that I've seen on readers and here.

So I compared the Korean translation and what was in the Japanese raws while doing this as I didn't previously have Japanese raws to compare to before, and it really confirmed what I had a bad feeling about earlier. The Korean translations are much closer to the original than what Habanero's been pushing out with the exception of a couple speech bubbles being switched to account for better grammar.

Not sure how I feel about that, but at least I know now that, I personally will probably be reading off of marumaru instead of waiting on english translation teams. They're much faster too, anyways.

I figured I may as well push out my translation from the Japanese RAW that I was writing to compare to the Korean translation here while I was reading.

Hope you guys enjoyed a quick look at what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will likely put out in completed form later, even if the translation will likely be really different.

When Habanero mistakes Johnny as Joannie and roleplay of a wife asking her husband to eat together with her once in a while as two friends fighting, I don't think there's much of an excuse.

That said, some people prefer a closer translation to the source, others prefer a localization, if you will.

No one's stopping Habanero from putting out their version, there's nothing to get upset about.

>>146411953
This. Instead of just complaining and getting upset for nothing, you could be doing something useful like error checking the greentext translation here.
>>
>>146411953
Ok, stop listening to idiots who can't write in proper, natural English and thinking their memetext translations are any good. The Habanero translations are fine, I read them. Proper translations take the original verbiage and tone and write lines an actual English speaker would say. Translating 1:1 is wrong, and inserting shitty jokes or ideas that aren't in the original text is also wrong (see: commie). See shit like this?

>>146412124
Yup, that chapter mixed up the soap opera drama, I'll give you that.

>That said, some people prefer a closer translation to the source, others prefer a localization, if you will.
No, fuck off. A 1:1 translation isn't faithful or accurate. You may think it is because you're just copying the words over and swapping languages, but you're completely butchering the author's tone, prose and delivery which is in no way an accurate translation.

>Instead of just complaining and getting upset for nothing
I'm not complaining for nothing. You're spreading incorrect information to people who don't know better and propagating the idea that ESL-tier translations are more accurate.
>>
>>146411767
Your assumption that I meant the KR>EN part when I mentioned Korean translations is dead wrong.

I meant that the Koreans have a closer translation to the Japanese than Habanero are doing JP to EN, and that's what I prefer. It might help that they're also culturally similar. If you don't prefer translations to be closer to what the author wrote, that's on you.

Rather, that also makes his point that localizing the dialogue makes the translated finished product better in some ways.

The punchline is better if it's left ambiguous as to what the girls are talking about in that chapter.

Also, shit like this>>146412423
is why editors are a thing.
>>
>>146412520
This is my problem right here. The second anyone picks something up and does a real "group" translation, you get a bunch of idiots here who can barely read Japanese and who can't write in English who go out of their way to go on and on about how the "anon translations" are better, when in reality they're crap, and in this case you tried making a point without even reading the damn page. Sure, plenty of scanlations groups are shit, and sure plenty of anons can translate well, but I've been following all these threads and the guy who does this on habanero is literally an anon who's been posting in threads forever asking someone here to typeset it for him. People are just too eager to assert their (lack of) knowledge about language, and as someone with an actual education who can write in English, seeing people say "Well he didn't translate そんなこと言われても as "Even if you were to say such a thing to me" so it's inaccurate is fucking annoying. No, a 1:1 translation is not preserving the author's intention. It destroys it by creating unnatural speech patterns that don't fit the characters at all.

>>146412595
>localizing the dialogue
It's not even localizing shit like changing onigiri into jelly donuts, it's just writing lines in English that an English speaker would actually say.
>>
So all the works are from the same world?
that means that karakai world has vampires and esp powers?
>>
>>146412795
Yup. That's one reason why I like this quite a bit.

It's actually possible that Takagi-san is a fucking mind reader just because that ESP girl oneshot happened and how Yamamoto tends to write everything in the same setting.

It should be:
1:1 -> see what sounds akward-> make it sound natural

>It should be literally replace words like a dictionary and then try to have an editor "smooth" it out
No. No it absolutely should not.

>>146412959
>That's literally what localization is.
In the actual sense of the word, yes. The problem is that people associate the word with commie and 4kids style "localizations".

>Also, you're getting upset for nothing, seriously
No fuck off. Idiots who can't read moon or write English need to stop pretending they have any business commenting on how translations works and what constitutes a "faithful" translation.
>>
>>146413019
i meant
-read the translated line
-interpret it
-rephrase it in a way that sounds ok
>>
>>146413019
Yeah, that's YOU associating the word to 4kids, I meant it in the proper sense.

And yeah, you really are getting upset over nothing here. Nothing's stopping Habanero from putting out their version and commentary on their work isn't hurting them either. Unless they're oversensitive about their work and unable to take or ignore the comments at stride. In which case, that's their problem.

Also, all this entire thread, I've been talking about how I prefer the JP>KR translation by qazqaz over the JP>EN by Habanero. The KR>EN I did is pretty irrelevant to what I was talking about. Sorry if you've been misunderstanding me on all this.
>>
>>146413246
No. You should never translate by taking a shitty 1:1 translation and then trying to rewrite it correctly. You should translate by actually knowing both languages, reading or hearing a line, and then knowing what the equivalent thought and line would be in the target languages.
>>
>>146413420
Editors exist. Did you not know this?
>>
>>146413401
>you really are getting upset over nothing here
No I'm not. You're spreading bullshit and ESLs here eat it up and then shitpost about raws they can't read.

So you think a translation between 2 similar south eastern asian languages is closer than a translation between 2 completely different languages? Setting aside how stupid that is, given how you write English translations, why would anyone listen to your opinion on proper wording and keeping author intent?

>>146413490
An editors job is to clean up grammar, not take a garbage 1:1 "translation" and try to turn it into English. Stop promoting shitty ESL translations.

OH, you're that guy who kept spamming "fuck you translator" in the takagi threads, aren't you?
>>
>>146413696
What the fuck is wrong with you? I just said that the translator who actually knows Japanese and English is doing a good job and that your ESL translations are shit. The idiot spamming image macros and shitposting the threads is some stupid ESL who's made that the anon translating didn't include magazine text because he was too stupid to get the joke.

Your translating skills suck, and you should stop pretending you're in any way qualified to comment on the quality of a translation if you can't actually write in the target language.
>>
>>146413805
Yeah, I'm aware you switched to calling people ESL after the gook in that thread called you out for being a massive retard.
>>
>>146413891
Anon I can tell you're really stupid based on your willingness to provide commentary on a topic you know nothing about, but stop and think for a minute. If that shitposter hates the guy who translates those series' and makes it his life's mission to shitpost his threads to death, and that guy doesn't know Japanese or proper English, then how could I be him given that I know Japanese and English and am saying that the translator's translation was good?
>>
>>146414010
to change the topic, who is best girl?
i would say sanae

>>146414070
>Anyone other than Mina
Oh look, you're wrong about something else.

Also you're>>146414070

both wrong.

They're all best girls. You can't get one without the other two.

But who is the bestest of the best?
>>
>>146414339
Johnny the cat.

Hardest worker in the neighborhood.

>The KR>EN I did
Wait a second, is the anon who did the gook translations also the one who just did a live translation here from Japanese?
>>
>>146414743
Looks like it.
>>
>>146414788
Then how did he read the Korean translations, see the line about the egg (which presumably just said egg instead of sunny side up eggs on the first page of that chapter), claim the habanero guy did the joke wrong, find out he was completely wrong because the Korean translation tried to create a joke that wasn't there by leaving it ambiguous, and then have the balls to say that the K->E translations was more faithful than the J->E one?
