But that's not true, they're the meme member of the group. Literally every teenager ever prefers the bassist because of that. It's the main guitarist who doesn't get attention because these days everyone needs to be a goddamn hipster.

It's like in Mario Kart where literally nobody ever picks Mario because he's too popular.

>>
>>146344211

Funny thing is Japan used to be more sexually libertine. They picked up Victorian morality in the 19th century in their attempts to catch up with the European empires. Obviously much has changed since then (Japan has gone from absolute monarchy to liberal democracy, women are no longer stigmatized for working, etc.) but there's definitely still a strong culturally conservative streak with regards to sex, though they're still probably a lot healthier about it than people where I am in Jesusland.

The reason the auspices of purity are demanded from both men and women working in the Japanese VA industry is simply because it's part of the job requirements. In the same way that being a truck driver requires you to drive trucks or being a firefighter requires you to scale ladders and possibly wade into an inferno, being a VA requires that you maintain a celibate public persona. Someone looking to get into the business is told this constantly, and deviating from it represents a breach of professional responsibility.

As for why this is part of the job requirements, that's simple--the market demands it.

As for some of the things I expect you will say:

>but making VAs adhere to those kinds of terms is inhumane!

It's a contract that they enter into willingly and with the knowledge that it is required of them. If they do not actually want to do it, they can quit and leave the job open for one of the thousands of hopefuls who will perform the job without complaint.

>the market is wrong for making those kinds of demands of people!

Why? I also think their obsession is pretty stupid, but they are free to spend their money as they choose. Also, the majority of /a/ users have a similar mindset to the Japanese market.

>>
>>146347427
>Not the guy, but you don't think it's a least a bit fucked up that someone practically has to give up on having a social life because they voice a cartoon character?

Of course I do. I say as much in my post. But let me ask you this: whose fault is it, and what can anyone do about it?

Consider that if the executives decide that celibacy is no longer a requirement, the consumers will simply vote with their wallets and force them to reinstate a policy of mandatory celibacy.

Consider also that, again, no one is forced to become a VA. People choose to do so of their own free will, knowing that it's an extremely competitive industry and that they are required to not have any personal relationships. If they think this is stupid or not worth the sacrifice or whatnot, they can, like the consumers, vote with their wallet and pursue a different kind of work instead.

That isn't mutually exclusive from being and idol. Idol otaku do not care about purity in its traditional, laudable sense of absence of licentious actions and thoughts; they care about purity in the sense of "absence of licentious actions and thoughts towards anyone except for me."

Gravure is fine because they can maintain this illusion since there are no men present. They presumably self-insert as the cameraman/director and imagine the woman is getting naked for them. Now actual JAV, where the woman has sex or performs sexual acts? That's entirely out of the question for them.

That said, it's easier to find a gig playing bass than guitar. A bassist to musicians is like a girl to a classroom full of boys, everyone's thirsty for one, they'll please you to keep you, you get to be picky. You don't get the girl being a bassist though.

I know how the market works, I thought it was clear that my post was just a rant about the crazy requirements seyuus need to respect.
Should they aim to become a voice actor if they're not willing to comply with the job rules? Probably not, but I don't think it's unreasonable of me to be upset if a seyuu I like falls into oblivion because of something that, in my opinion, should have nothing to do with their job. Again, I understand abstaining from sex and relationships in general is part of this, I just don't like it.

>Also, the majority of /a/ users have a similar mindset to the Japanese market.
I don't think so. People here often just get a good laugh from all the drama that comes up whenever a seyuu's sex scandal is exposed. Not all of them maybe. Maybe some of them react like Japanese otakus, but overall the reactions in the two communities (Japanese and non-Japanese) are vastly different. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the most crazy ones wanted blood, in a quite literal way.

I have it the other way around. Guitars are easy to learn, but my brain doesn't help me do even two consecutive chords right with a piano.

I mean, how the fuck do you press four keys right, then press four *other* keys right, then press four *other* keys right, and so on.. Just how do you memorize all that shit.

When I put it this way, you might think it's the same with guitars, but I find guitar chords much easier to memorize, unlike piano chords which are a complete pain.

And I didn't even get started on playing with two hands. Two different rhythms, or a rhythm with one hand and a melody with the other. Good luck coordinating that.
>>
>>146347979
>>146353262
My point is that if you can play the piano, then that's already a great talent and you should work on it.

Try searching youtube for inspiration. Anime song covers and touhou medleys tend to be absolutely beautiful, and that's not to mention the loads of tracks titled "jazz piano music", "morning piano music", "happy piano music", and shit like that which ranges from entry-level easy to somewhat advanced, and is fun to listen to.

Improve on your piano skills. Mugi will be proud.

Get better at the piano, seriously. I am a guitarist of a little more than eight years, and I seriously think that piano is the best instrument. The fact that the piano can so easily have two separate voices playing over each other makes it the easiest instrument to sound good solo with automatically, and makes transcriptions from other instruments to the piano very easy.

Second of all, the piano is very loud on it's own. This makes it pretty much the perfect classical concert instrument; there's a reason that there are so many famous piano concertos and like fucking 10 famous guitar concertos. In terms of classical music, and solo playing in general, the piano is better.

Now don't get me wrong I love the shit out the guitar, there's a reason I still play it. The problem is, sounding like a pro on the guitar is more challenging than the piano. The guitar's not HARDER than the piano, but it does have a steeper learning curve if you want to get into classical or jazz, which are really the only types of music that matter anyway.

Now if you just want to play chord progressions and get pussy, than by all means give up the fucking piano and get practicing guitar, or better yet, play the ukulele (if you want an extra stupid meme instrument). Playing some stupid shit by Neutral Milk Hotel or Bob Dylan will probably take you like 5-6 months max to learn on guitar, and it impresses pretty much anyone that doesn't give a shit about music. If you want an electric and want to play Iron Man or Smoke on the Water or some shit, that's even easier and you can definitely impress anyone who doesn't care about music.

In short, if you really like music then I recommend you just stick with piano, but sounding mediocre for dumb broads on guitar is really fucking easy, but you might as well get a uke or mandolin if you want that. Being truly good at any instrument is really hard though. The guitar is a beautiful instrument if you want to really get into it.

>>146354231
I didn't, because I don't have a piano in the first place. I'm just imagining the difficulty.

And you started when you were 7. If you are even 14 right now then that means you've been practicing for 7 fucking years already. 7 years are enough to make a music prodigy, not just let you be able to play chords easily.

>oh I guess while being a public figure I fucked all my colleagues and got pictures leaked to the tabloids

You don't need a "pure" vagina to sing and voice characters.
No, her private life should have nothing to do with the job. You could argue it's normal that people frown upon sex scandals, even in the West, but is there any real reason why they should flip their shit?
>>
>>146358261
Addition:
As for the whole KitaEri thing, the whole thing seemed like one of the usual /b/-tier raids, played for the hell of it. But again, I'm not denying there are no western otakus who get as mental as the Japanese ones, but knee-jerk reactions are much more common on boards like 2ch and Futaba than here. Look at Emittsun's sex scandal, the threads were nothing but shitposting with some slut-calling, nothing more. I didn't get the impression anyone really cared. But hey, maybe I'm wrong on all this, still, this doesn't really relate to my main point, which, maybe hasn't come across yet (my bad, English is not my first language)

Is doing something that might get you exposed in a sex scandal a good decision if you are a seyuu/a public figure/whatever? No, it's a poor decision, because people's reaction will be harsh, especially in the case of Japanese seyuu, whose jobs specifically consists in maintaining a pure image, among the other things.
However, am I supposed to just accept a sex scandal is enough to bring down someone's career, no matter how good they are in the other (and most important in my opinion) fields of their job? My answer is no.
I'm not crazy for seyuus, but I liked Aya Hirano, and I'm sorry the sex scandal greatly hindered her career. Yeah, I know, people got mad because she "betrayed" them, she violated her job's rules etc. What can I say? Fuck these people, I don't agree with them on their standards.

A sex scandal nearly brought down an American president.
A sex scandal can thus easily bring down a Japanese idol voice actress.

I'm not sure if you're talking about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky or not.

Eh, I personally never cared about celebrity "scandals".

First, I don't give a fuck who people breed with. The reality of the matter is that they always breed, and it's always crazy and stupid. And my universal reaction is: Yeah whatever.

And second, I think that defaming someone is generally cruel, no matter the reason (and no matter what their gender is -- so don't jump on me for "defending women"; I'd have totally said the same if it were a man). I'd only consider it when that person is being inhuman (i.e. doing something actually criminal), not because they did whatever stupid shit in their life. People are always stupid with their life. Again, my universal reaction is: Yeah whatever.

Live and let live, people. This whole petite and small-minded gossiping and spreading shit about others like it's totally something isn't really as exciting as people think. It sucks balls, it makes you a piece of shit, and it's one of the major reasons why I can't stand conversations with most normies.

And I'm not even defending her. If she were my friend I might have scolded her. But we all know you guys aren't trying to be genuinely helpful or anything, just being worms who enjoy defaming people.

To the losers she markets too? Yeah you do.
And women and men who're hoping to capitalize on it will go out of their way to defame them.

Think that doesn't happen in the west too?

Welcome to reality.

You can lead a social life without doing anything Aya did.
>>
>>146365158
You can also lead a social life by doing the same thing Aya Hirano did.
You just have to keep it a secret.

Okay? Imagine if she was a man. Everybody would call him a sleazy scumbag, and rightfully so.

>>146365356
Yeah but it certainly would not be enough to hurt his career unless someone filed rape charges or something.

Al Cisneros! You! Are my dude!

It all just depends on what kind of enemies that man would have.

True, I'd put that down to a de facto male dominated society

It's literally the easiest thing to do to "play" music, nobody even tries anymore.
>>
>>146344170
If I remember, it was the other way around, actually. The bassist had a wife and wasn't having any of Hirano's shit.

Because female fans don't care. This is just how capitalism works, anon - if your job depends on sexually appealing to people who value purity, your career is going to tank if you turn out to be not pure, and the person who's appealing to people who don't value it as much won't run that risk.

Death threats or whatever are another matter, but your career ending because you did something people really didn't like is kind of inevitable when your job description is effectively "be appealing to fans so that people will want your draw-power in their shows and public appearances."
