The funniest thing is the author is supposedly an EMT-fag.
My guess is he simply doesn't know how to write her character, and thus she's come off as rather plain., as she's hardly been written into the story.

I mean, it's quite the scenario you have when your readerbase think some side character might be the main heroine, since even if she lacks as much personality as your actual main heroine, she's at least become a figure of support and a pillar of strength for the MC, whereas your main heroine is just the girl the MC likes the most for some reason.

Also, writing a side story in which the side character wins and in which you have the main heroine act in the lamest way possible (i.e. act like the side character) she is bound to lost tons of point and respect.

I like Emilia, she's cute, a nice person, has a nice VA and a really nice design, but she's a main heroine in name only, as she's hardly even a character.

Unless you're meaning to say Re:Zero is the prologue for some other story, and I've read nothing about such a thing.
