Does anyone on /a/ love "edgy" characters? It's cool to pretend not to like them but they're so much fun.
>>
Underage spotted.
>>
>>146259326
lulu is not edge. onii sama is not edge. yes I love pimping bastards that fuck shit up
>>
>>146259326
/a/ is contrarian

They hate them because there popular and /a/ will say it is edgy
>>
>>146259326
I used to like edgy characters when I was 8 years old just like I used to like garbage like linkin park.
>>
>>146259820
Where's popular?
>>
>>146259326
You're a gay contrarian underage nigger faggot hipster if you don't like Lelouch.
>>
>>146259871
>just like I used to like garbage like linkin park.
That honestly says more about you than people that like characters that are perceived as edgy.
>>
>>146259326
The edgier the merrier.

Even though hot blooded > edgy all day.

Yes. Ultimately they are the guys that makes things interesting. Its fair to hate a guy like Light Yagami for his actions, but without Light there is no Deathnote, thus no entertaining battle of wits and ideas, same with Lelouch. Also I can respect any man that can continuously get his way in the world against all odds, no matter how evil or good they may be, I only wish that they go all the way with it and truly believe in their way of doing things.

Pic related, my favorite edgelord as of late.
>>
You know the proper definition of edgy is to think they are cool right? It's found by comparing their best and worst moments, in Lelouch he was edgy at many times, but in his final moments you can't sum up his character as edgy, unless you want to call 'sacrifice for your belief' edgy.

Compared to say Light who IS an edgy character, he gets caught out in the end and turns into a slobbering mess, now that was his real personality, and the entire series was him being edgy to build himself up.

It's that small difference for me anyways that makes me describe things differently.
>>
>>146261927
If 'sacrifice for your belief' requires being the most deliberately evil piece of shit in history, then yes.
>>
>>146262031
He was just pretending to be evil.
>>
>>146262095
It's still evil even if it's ironic.
>>
>>146262193
So he was ironically being edgy.
>>
>>146262031
He wasn't inherently evil, he didn't need to be but a corrupt Empire would be unacceptable as a grey existence, it had to be absolved like many of time memorial. Sure he fired off some nukes, but Americans did the same thing to reach a faster conclusion, all war accumulates vast numbers of death.
>>
>>146261927

To be fair I remember Lelouch having a pretty low moment too where even he wasn't sure wtf he was doing, his story just ended on a less pathetic note.

Like I said I can respect a edgy character who sticks to his gun, but Lelouch and Light were both in over there heads.
>>
>>146262221
It's edgy even if it's ironic.
>>146262302
Lelouch's goal explicitly required him to be the most terrible man to ever live. He had to become the greatest evil for his greatest good.

He may not have been 'inherently' evil, but he didn't need to be to be evil. You don't pretend to strip people of their free will, you don't pretend to kill people and laugh, you don't pretend to view the death of innocents as collateral, you don't pretend to usher a reign of terror and be seen as literally Hitler.
>>
>>146262484
For me it's a concept that makes them more human, 'edgy' tends to be a term with connotations of failure.

You could always have the composed type of hero without fault preserving under pressure, but really who lives their life following principles like that.

Struggling type characters that do great deeds, that weakness gets labelled as edgy very easily since they are obviously wasting their time along the way being emotional tards, but what matters in the end for me is results on how the label sticks.
>>
>>146262814
>but he didn't need to be to be evil
But for his plan to work, he did.
>>
>>146262814
Any leader that has followed the chaotic path or war isn't edgy in my opinion, it's the same as summing up criminal organisations like the mafia and yakuza as edgy since they do evil to get what the results they want.

Edgy =/= Evil in my dictionary is what I'm saying.

>Edgy =/= Evil in my dictionary is what I'm saying.

Yeah if the character is a legit psycho I don't think people register them as edgy, its usually power fantasy characters that appear the edgiest because of the personality shift that the power brings makes their attitude seem less genuine.

I was saying you don't need to be 'inherently' evil to be a horrible bastard. If you bash a person's head in to get heat off your friend, you still did that.
>>146263203
I don't they are as in tune with their 'evilness' like Lelouch is. As I said, Lelouch is explicit about it and sometimes took delight in being a bastard.

If you don't see any edginess, that's fine. But CG was fucked up morally. Being as terrible as people was sanctioned as long as you get a good result in the end.

He didn't need to just be a horrible bastard. He had to be the most horrible bastard ever.
>>
>>146263772
Right, he had to be worse than a lot of the wicked trash in that series and there was a lot.
>>
>>146263721
>sanctioned
By who? Only like a handful of people approved of what he was doing, whether they knew his plan or not, after he left the Black Knights.
>>
>>146263979
The series, Lelouch won. And as we know, the winner is always right.
>>
I dislike "moralfag" characters who are able to fight at extremely high levels without killing anyone just so they get to keep their hands clean, even worse when other characters are used to clean up after them to preserve their purity. Even Vash, king of moralfags eventually had to kill a bitch.
>>
>>146264056
Like 4 characters know that he won. And if you mean the series in general and not the characters, then yeah, he won but also lost a lot.
>>
>>146264197
No one said being a winner is easy.

Lelouch was beyond good and evil. He had a social-political ideal, not a moral one. The guy would take 'history's most evil' as a compliment.

Come on, man, how many episodes did you watch of Suzaku fucking up his own shit because of the ideals he never questioned? The main theme of the show was Lelouch rejecting the very idea of good.
>>
>>146263459
Hate it when a character loses edge and becomes more boring. Like when the protagonist from Vinland Saga became boring as sin after losing his meaning in life and then became a half-assing pacifist (though he seems to be getting better now). Or Hachiman in Oregairu S2.
>>
>>146261128
Hey, that's pretty good.

I fucking love Geist because there's no pretentiousness about him. He's just a guy who enjoys murdering people because it's fun. There's no 14 year old tier philosophy about it. He just does what he loves, and that's refreshingly simple.
>>
Edge is better than blandness, but it doesn't hold a candle to a legitimately good character. Edgy and good isn't mutually exclusive though.

>that was his real personality
Light without the DN is a good guy. Basically his core traits are his intelligence, ambition, confidence and strong sense of justice. He could have been the one of the greatest police leaders, a hero. But tasting godly power went to his head and he became the greatest criminal.
>>
Neither Light nor Lelouch are edgy you dumb cunts. They both had perfectly understandable ideals.

Edgy is Sasuke or Hiei who act and look dark for the sake of being dark.
>>
>>146262484
>brought about world peace

Get out, newfag. It'll be 8 years next month since the emperor sacrificed his life for world peace and I won't have scum like you besmirching his glorious name.

Only the characters lelouch gave a fuck about like his little sister and kallen knew

That's all that mattered to lelouch

No, it's being a miscreant. Provocative, contrarian, screw the rules, douche. That sort of thing.

Well yeah, that's what makes him so great.

He was literally born into edge and does his best to hide his heart of gold, but it's the little bits that escape that make him likable while still being edgy.
