Yes. Ultimately they are the guys that makes things interesting. Its fair to hate a guy like Light Yagami for his actions, but without Light there is no Deathnote, thus no entertaining battle of wits and ideas, same with Lelouch. Also I can respect any man that can continuously get his way in the world against all odds, no matter how evil or good they may be, I only wish that they go all the way with it and truly believe in their way of doing things.

You know the proper definition of edgy is to think they are cool right? It's found by comparing their best and worst moments, in Lelouch he was edgy at many times, but in his final moments you can't sum up his character as edgy, unless you want to call 'sacrifice for your belief' edgy.

Compared to say Light who IS an edgy character, he gets caught out in the end and turns into a slobbering mess, now that was his real personality, and the entire series was him being edgy to build himself up.

It's that small difference for me anyways that makes me describe things differently.

Lelouch's goal explicitly required him to be the most terrible man to ever live. He had to become the greatest evil for his greatest good.

He may not have been 'inherently' evil, but he didn't need to be to be evil. You don't pretend to strip people of their free will, you don't pretend to kill people and laugh, you don't pretend to view the death of innocents as collateral, you don't pretend to usher a reign of terror and be seen as literally Hitler.

For me it's a concept that makes them more human, 'edgy' tends to be a term with connotations of failure.

You could always have the composed type of hero without fault preserving under pressure, but really who lives their life following principles like that.

Struggling type characters that do great deeds, that weakness gets labelled as edgy very easily since they are obviously wasting their time along the way being emotional tards, but what matters in the end for me is results on how the label sticks.

Any leader that has followed the chaotic path or war isn't edgy in my opinion, it's the same as summing up criminal organisations like the mafia and yakuza as edgy since they do evil to get what the results they want.

Yeah if the character is a legit psycho I don't think people register them as edgy, its usually power fantasy characters that appear the edgiest because of the personality shift that the power brings makes their attitude seem less genuine.

I dislike "moralfag" characters who are able to fight at extremely high levels without killing anyone just so they get to keep their hands clean, even worse when other characters are used to clean up after them to preserve their purity. Even Vash, king of moralfags eventually had to kill a bitch.

I fucking love Geist because there's no pretentiousness about him. He's just a guy who enjoys murdering people because it's fun. There's no 14 year old tier philosophy about it. He just does what he loves, and that's refreshingly simple.

Edge is better than blandness, but it doesn't hold a candle to a legitimately good character. Edgy and good isn't mutually exclusive though.

Light without the DN is a good guy. Basically his core traits are his intelligence, ambition, confidence and strong sense of justice. He could have been the one of the greatest police leaders, a hero. But tasting godly power went to his head and he became the greatest criminal.

Neither Light nor Lelouch are edgy you dumb cunts. They both had perfectly understandable ideals.

Edgy is Sasuke or Hiei who act and look dark for the sake of being dark.
