Haven't seen Utena, but I agree that Pemguindrum was shit. The first half was decent and it could've ended great, but the plot just totally fell apart by the end and they tried to put way too many random elements in for no reason. Reminded me of Mirai Nikki

2011 was one of my favorite years for anime ever. Madoka, S;G, and Penguindrum were all top tier shows.

I've finished this show this yesterday and damn it was good.
In an earlier someone said that Ikuhara is making shorter and shorter series I hope he will making on which he has total control it would be amazing.
