When's the last time you watched an Anime on VHS /a/?
Where is your VCR right now?
>>145694094
>Where is your VCR right now?
In the landfill, probably.
It's a shame, I kinda want to play around with one again, and digitize shit.
Rewatched my Rayearth bootlegs a few weeks ago. And my VCR is under my BVM, not hooked up though because I'm moving a ton of stuff around.
I've had both seasons of Grander Musashi on VHS that I must've watched at least 10 times through. My VCR is under my bed.
What's a vcr and vhs? That antiquated technology has been gone from my life since 2000.
>>145694288
Digitize while you still can. VHS tapes are still slowly demagnetizing, so unless you want to record over the exact same shows to preserve them they should die eventually.

Who would have thought laserdisc would outlast VHS.
>>145694398
>Grander Musashi
That got an english release? Is it even on Bakabt?
>>145694542
It was inCantonese.
I miss anime previews.

>>145694094
probably a month or so ago I watched wicked city, vcr is hooked up to a crt thats in my garage.
>>145695547
I wonder if anyone on /a/ owns a laserdisc anymore.
Anyone know what Anime exist on Laserdisc with Subtitles? I'm sure the list is short, but it would be fun to watch something like this in 2016.
>>145695913
Fuck, forgot my image. Was talking about Ghost in The shell. I know Akira & Kiki's delivery service got english releases too.
The only anime I've seen on VHS was my older brother's copy of Akira.
Pokemon the first movie
Does Robotech count?
>>145695822
Probably not, Laser disc was short lived and I only ever remember seeing it in my school
>>145696107
It actually laser in Japan until 2000 or so.
>>145696168
>lasted
That was a weird typo to make.
I wish I knew about VHS subs when I was younger, I bet I could have seen a lot more anime
>>145696168
I only remember it from here in the States
Everyone I knew used VHS
Japan loves to use tech for a good period of time.
>>145694707
That was some good shit.
>>145695822
I left mine at my parents a couple years back. Originally I bought Urotsukidoji on LD (thinking it was a DVD), and then bought the actual player afterwards so I could watch it. I should probably get rid of the disc next time I go back to prevent any weird questions....
>>145696338
>Urotsukidoji on laserdisc
Gotta say, I'm kinda jealous. That's gotta be worth a ton if you still own it.
>>145696481
>legend of the overfiend
That's so 80's it hurts.
>>145694094
>When's the last time you watched an Anime on VHS /a/?
I don't know, I got my first DVD player in 2000 so maybe a year or two after that? Pretty sure I was downloading my fansubs by that point, but the early aughts are kind of a blur.
>>145696543
If there's anything I miss, it's the big poofy hair.
>>145696625
I'm this close to ordering a working laserdisc off eBay I swear. There isn't s specific model I should get right? I know the later ones used some weird combing filters to supposedly get better picture that can go for thousands.
>>145694094
The other day when I was moving boxes around into my new house, I came across my old copies of the original U.S.Rendition releases of Gunbuster.
Too bad I don't have a VCR anymore.
I also still own a pretty extensive collection of Kurosawa films on LDs.
Yes I oldfag.
>>145696543
>Legend of the Demon Womb
You have no idea.
>>145696804
Those don't have the pubic hair shots they cut out of every other release right?
>>145696877
You know, I'm not sure. I don't have a mean to revisit it either.
I imagine it's cut out of all US releases, and only found on the original Japanese VHS release.
>>145696587
How was that done back then? KAzaa? Napster? IRC? I don't remember. All I remember is using anipike to find random DBZ stuff.
>>145696107
I distinctly remember being able to rent this from blockbuster. It goes for over $100 now though. I keep hoping I'm going to find a bunch mixed in with Vinyl records, but I never do.
>>145694423
There was a time where you had to pay $45 for two episodes of Evangelion.
>>145697063
IRC was pretty big as a primary source. For trading files Direct Connect was best if you had a big collection and a good enough connection to get into a good community. Napster was pretty much all MP3, but Kazaa and the various gnutella clients followed it pretty quickly and you could find just about anything on them if you were willing to wait long enough. Bittorrent also took off relatively quickly when it came to anime distribution and was in use in the early 2000s.
Last night. My VCR is sitting on top of my CRT in front of my bed.
>>145698420
I like those badges. What are they from?
>>145698939
Otaku No Video. I got them from contributing to Animeigo's Kickstarter for the US BD release.
>>145699023
Lucky. I would have loved to donate to that. Was there a thread on /a/? Why did I never hear about this?
>>145699134
No clue. I don't browse here very much. It just ended a few months ago. I only found out about it because I went to their site to try to buy the DVD, but I ended up donating to that so I could get the BD instead.
>>145698420
Nice collection. Mine's a bit more random since it's all thrift store finds.
>>145699134
You can still get it.
http://www.animeigo.com/products/anime/otaku-no-video
They are doing Riding Bean next.
Got some decent prints atAnimeExpo
>>145699463
Fuck I meantAnimeFest
>>145699283
>anime at thrift stores
you lucky fuck
>>145699283
Thanks. I keep a bunch that I don't really care about in a drawer, but this is my main collection.
>>145699283
What part of the country do I have to live in where I can casually buy up anime on VHS like this?
>>145699702
Ohio. Interestingly the End of Eva tape is a promotional screening copy. Aside from the amusing blurbs on the back it also warns you that it's for screening purposes only every few minutes.
>>145694094
Patlabor 2 since a friend gave it to me a few weeks ago. My VCR is in the corner of my room, unplugged but functional.
>>145694094
>When's the last time you watched an Anime on VHS /a/?
I remember watching one of the Pokemon movies at my cousin's house in 2007 because it was stuck in their TV's built-in VCR and I had nothing better to do.
>>145701206
i never forgot the silver wings that dance in the great sky
>When's the last time you watched an Anime on VHS /a/?
Trigun at a friend's house around 2000.
>Where is your VCR right now?
I have a VCR-DVDR combo that might still work, maybe.
>>145701206
>they censored the later releases of the movie
>I have to buy a fucking laserdisc to watch it uncut
WHY. Why Censor that one movie?
>>145702200
Only the 2012 blu ray is censored. They just released a new uncensored blu ray this year.
>>145701688
>I remember watching one of the Pokemon in 2007 on VHS because it was stuck in my cousin's TV/VCR and I had nothing better to do.
I have this image of you alone in a room watching Pokemon the movie on VHS & in the rain. You're there eating stale ritz crackers because that's all they had in the cupboard.
>>145696107
It was popular with home theater geeks. A friend of mine pulled out his old laserdisk player recently to watch un-special Star Wars on his DLP projector
>>145702332
Is it on Nyaa or bakabt or something? English release or Japan only? I need answers here.
>>145702376
>Un-special
They call that "Normal" anon, normal. It's the normal version of the movie. That or the "original" release version.
>>145702376
You can watch the despecialized editions these days.
>>145702420
Yes. Get Live-eviL's release on nyaa
Talk about the first time you watched anime on VHS & how horrible it was.
