Fortune Cup is solid. If you ask me that was the last time that a YGO anime was legitimately good the whole arc embodied the spirit of Kaz manga and could be considered a spiritual successor. Tomioka really knew how to write YGO but too bad he fucked off to go do Pokemon. Dark Signers is overrated, it is good but mainly because it's based off of one of Kaz rejected manga concepts so there was already a foundation for that arc and Ono and Yoshida simply had to fill shit in, it would've been amazing if Tomioka stayed for that arc. Of course everything after that came out of the staff's ass and is shit as you would expect.

Besides being the closer we had to a complete adaptation of Kaz manga. I don't really care about whether the character duels or not so long as they have a decent character. For example, a lot of people shit on Anzu because she doesn't duel, but I liked that aspect of her because it made the DM story more grounded. I like how not every character has to fucking duel and can lead normal lives doing what they like to do, in Anzu's case becoming a dancer. The important thing was her character was consistent throughout the whole story: she continued to keep believing in her friends and never stopped chasing her dream of going to America to dance.

But Aki's character fucking crumbled to pieces after Dark Signers ended. She was built up as this strong, independent character that was able to get over her demons and make some friends she could share experiences with. But after Dark Signers she just took a back seat as a cheerleader/benchwarmer for the rest of the show and became a Jesus Fudo worshiper. Like I understand she likes the guy but the way they portrayed her feelings towards him was simply embarrassing. She feels so weak and pathetic in the second half and even that segment where she was learning to D-Wheel wasn't enough to salvage her character.

I like Arc-V threads but hate Arc-V.

Sergey was, is, and will ALWAYS be the most beautiful duel machine.

Yuzu got Sora to join the Lancers.

Yuya, Shun, Gon, and Sawatari got thrown into XYZ and resolved things there before leaving for fusion.

We learned Yusho was initially approached by Reiji regarding Leo's plans and that Yusho worked with Leo to form the real solid vision system initially
Reiji bought a motorboat.

Dennis killed himself.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of unclear how the Yuus actually combine.
Yuto lost in a card game, and died in Yuyas arms. Why did that actually happen instead of him just losing and that's it? Why did Yuya nom him? Then in the HITOTSU NI incident, the Yuus were about to combine even though they didn't lose or win a duel. Yugo doesn't seem dead either even though he lost to Rin, but yet again Yuya has lost many times and hasn't died. Do they die if they lose to another Yuu, there are 2 different dragons out, there's another Yuu close by, etc.?

I think its because Arc-V started pretty darn strong, and people were really invested in both Shun and Yuto and the mysteries surrounding the different dimension. But it all felt pretty underwhelming as characters that people grew fond of were shafted for marketing purposes (Even though had they stuck with them they would of have even MORE cards to shill).

Its less about "Its shit" and more like "It had the potential to be so much more" that strikes people the hardest. Because bad BAD it isn't, but it was even hyped as the Evangelion of card games and seeing where it went really hurts.

This. The duels I remember the most are the ones where it feels like the characters are really personally invested and have a strong connection to what's at stake. And of course a duel between two characters who have a notable relationship makes for a great set up to be paid off. I really enjoyed Yuya vs Reiji II for that.

I mean, it's not like Jack vs Yuya II was bad, but Yuya didn't really have any notable relationship to the Commons or even the City as a whole since he spent so much time in a hotel. Even with Crow, the native he knew the most, he didn't spend much time with.

If anyone was supposed to be the driving force to flip the City on its head, I think it should've been Yugo. The guy who grew up and knew what it was like to be a poorfag, but still (presumably?) had a good heart in spite of that. But instead of developing through the arc that featured his home dimension, he was largely inconsequential.
