I have been thinking something about the shadowing during Infected which was very nice. My guess it was because of Takuya Satou direction. That's the same kind of stuff, the play with light and shadow you see in Steins;Gate. I hope the new director follow the same path, at least that gave WIXOSS an incredible atmosphere.
