Just started reading this manga yesterday. It's fucking amazing even though I understand none of the shogi stuff. Couldn't think of a better studio than SHAFT to adapt this and the designs certainly look on point for a SHAFT anime. Every character in Honey and Clover is a horrible person in no entertaining way. Every member of the cast is introduced as extremely selfish, and at least for the 5 or so episodes I watched, they only seemed to be getting worse.

The pacing is really slow as well, which isn't something I normally mind because Natsume Yuujinchou and Aria are my favorite series ever, but it's a slow paced drama about awful people being bad to each other. I might even be able to stand that if I felt like they were supposed to be awful, but I'm always under the impression that I'm supposed to like and relate to these people when I've known high school students that're more emotionally equipped.
