I think they understood well enough that BB is a strong person, but it is an important part of Luffy and Zoro, they don't fret in presence of any danger because they have willpower to always fight. They felt that BB stood a lot higher than the scrubs all around them, but they would not cower before him no matter what. And I do think that Usopp has that quality as well, but it's hidden under his insecurity. Sanji on the other hand is a more of a rational person who understands that logical thing is to avoid great danger, but like Usopp this quality is subverted by his confidence in his superhuman skills.

Agreed. But I think, in Jaya, it was less that Luffy and Zoro realised Teach's strength and more that they realised his worth. If that makes sense. They realised that he wasn't some random guy in the streets. They probably had that impression inside the bar but when they got outside and Teach started talking, they probably got a sixth sense. The crew has mentioned how stupid the Monster Trio's battle senses are. And the three also have a way off figuring out someone's character after meeting them. Especially Luffy.

Well first, humans hate the fisherman. So I doubt they want to protect them. Which led them to seek yonkos for protection. Second you're asking for the impossible. Trying to oppose the yonkos or keep all four in check would only attract all their attention to the Marines. And we seen how they barely was able to defend against one. Now have all four fighting them back at once and not including all the other strong pirates they have to try to keep in check as well like luffy and co. They wouldn't exist any longer
