Read the translated manga and it doesn't really seem too good overall.

The catch seems to be a super strategist in a strictly structured military attaining fame and achievements.
The downside is that the screenwriter/original author doesn't seem to have too much knowledge about military organisations both on a national level and platoon level.

Also some small things annoy me to no end,
such as nobody figuring out that guns can be used at long range,
or the main character claiming everything is "unscientific".

Sure, it's better than other LN(?) adaptations of military strategists I've seen,

I think the only time I wasn't hoping she'd die was when Ikta saved her from drowning.

When Ikta told her that being made a knight basically ruined his life and her reply was basically "yea what u gon do about it bitch" and then she started getting all proud of how she knew about his family drama my hatred towards her exploded, and when they cut to like a month later and she's acting all cute and buddy buddy with Ikta and he reciprocates with some animu romcom reactions that hatred spread to the author for being a fucking hack.

Last episode when she saw a bunch of good men get slaughtered by girl Kirito for trying to get their revenge on her mustache curling evil and corrupt family and reacted with a WAAAH BAKA IKTA BAKAAAA that would have embarrassed a tsundere from the trashiest early 2000s romcom I really questioned why I made it past episode 3.

It's a shame because there have been multiple scene with the potential for interesting outcomes, but it looks like the author is 100% dedicated to making this as awful as he can.

The only thing that keeps me going is knowledge that redhead bitch dies.

I had high hopes for this after it had shown a hint of ambivalence in regards to not dehumanising the enemies of the republic. However, the incredibly annoying main character keeps spouting platitudes at his hapless surroundings in a snotty fashion, providing a power fantasy for 15 year olds. And who could blame him? Apparently, he's the only one with even half a brain and the only source of knowledge in his world was his teacher who however never bothered to share it with anyone but him. The show covers itself in the garments of maturity, attempting to show a grim reality of warfare, but fails due to the portrayal of the leading characters. Overall, it's a major disappointment.

Whoa whoa whoa. Let's take a look at what happened:

A bunch of trained soldiers are walking in formation. The one in the front of the group gets taken out by a crossbow bolt from some dude hidden in the forest. Everyone's on full alert.

Suddenly, tomato girl is standing behind the leader guy, and none of the several soldiers standing around the two of them seemed to notice a thing.

They all talk for a while, then they get into a 1 vs like 12 or whatever fight where the girl cuts everyone clean through their plate armor and basically single handedly defeats a bunch of soldiers who act like they're regular soldiers in a Musou game with no help other than one single shot from one of the several people just sitting in the bushes watching while doing nothing.

At least the genius mind master MC is supposed to be the main draw of the show, he just suffers from the usual problem that is the fact that in order to write a really intelligent character you either have to be really intelligent yourself or you have to make every other character really dumb, which is the more common approach since most LN authors aren't geniuses. The fight was just straight out of donut steel roleplaying forums. The fact that the good guys lost didn't help either.

Not really, since it's something I made up.

Basically it's when the author's too autistic to understand how characters act. Like, he's got a basic understanding of "event A leads the character to do event B", but he doesn't understand how or why the character gets to event B so he just sort skips to the conclusion.

In this show, I mean how no one seems to show any sort of reaction to the fact that the empire is the most cartoonishly evil faction in the world until they go full rebel halfway into the cour (other than the MC who makes a couple of off-hand remarks which get ignored by everyone). The author had a vague idea of "they see that the empire is kinda shit so they end up rebelling" so he wrote both of those things (the characters witnessing examples of the empire being awful and then the characters eventually rebelling), but he has no idea how to write the characters coming to terms with reality or whatever so he just kinda didn't bother with it.

Think of it like an animation that has key frames but no in betweens. It "works", but it looks jarring and weird as fuck. In this case, it makes the characters seem borderline autistic and pretty unlikable because they don't react the way you'd expect human beings to, since the author is basically an ideas guy who can't actually write.

If I'm watching a show hoping from some dumbass keikaku doori action in a fantasy world with a decent or at least functional setting and suddenly the show decides that it wants to pretend its characters are good enough to shove a typical beginning-of-the-volume "let's unwind from the previous volume's climax with a whole chapter of nothing before we get back on with the plot" episode in the form of a 20 minute long flashback right before said volume climax, then of course I'm not gonna bother watching it.
