There's no actually threatening high magic, asymmetrical warfare, or some sort of nigh invincible mythical creature to spice things up and actually cause some tension. They just roll over everything. Well why else? It looked interesting on paper but whatever. Seeing one side get steam rolled for 24 episodes gets boring real fast and the cringeworthy harem hijinks on a GROWN ass character doesn't even make sense.

The concept is neat. Modern military versus fantasy has the potential to be fun.

But, the constant JSDF wanking gets old pretty quickly. The main character is too perfect, but at the same time is extremely. The haremshit was completely out of place and ruined it.

It was alright. Started strong but near the end of the second season I had to force myself to watch the new episodes. Maybe watching it continuously without waiting for the episode would remedy it. Also /a/ would just fight over the stupid shit ("This anime is just nippon strong fuck it" or "not realistic we all know women can't shoot"). Personally I wish it would have chosen to focus on one thing (either Itami and his harem, the politics of the GATE, or the squadron). I feel by focusing on too many things it fails to really develop any characters. But the anime did have some dope battle scenes.
