I kind of agree. Shows from before the age of VHS look great in promotional and designs, but the execution tended to suffer heavily from tv budgeting (and I know it's kind of pedantic, but animal designs from that era really bothers me).

There's some things that fall in the middle like some of the Pierrot magical girl shows. I still need to watch the 1991 Momo remake.

To be fair, TV budgets are still a problem, but I understand why they have to happen. You're right about Pierrot though, but sadly the budget for those kind of shows, aimed at little girls, are especially damning.
