Incredibly incompetent writing, absolute shit arcs, a few good arcs, insufferable protagonist, wonderful side characters, those side characters getting totally shafted by the writing, and beautiful art, including interesting character design and amazing aesthetics, pic related. Lots of shota pandering, but the artist clearly loves boobs as well.
I hate this series but I read it every month.

S1 is great, follows the manga, less gay like the manga
S2 is anime original but I really liked it because Alois was fun and the whole dual buttle thing that lasted the season
Book of Circus and Book of Murder both follow the manga and avoid all the problems of s2.
I'm excited for the titanic arc movie. Its pretty fun as a story in a lot of ways especially smug shota and smug butler and their smug battles to smug people.

To clarify for any other anons, Books of Circus and Murder both completely retcon season 2 and much of season 1. They start the franchise fresh as far as animation goes.
I was retarded and only talked about the manga in my earlier post.
