Cardcaptor Sakura, and Madoka are ones that come to mind.
CCS is another 90s anime that kids in the US watched, Madoka is more popular with teen/adult anime fans though.

This. Plus in both SM and CC cases, they didn't have to change the titles of their anime a la Glitter Force. I honestly cannot see many magical girl anime having the same cross market appeal that they had in this day and age.
