You realize a villain can be a terrible person and still be a great character, right? Subaru is not a villain (yet), but just because he's unlikable/stupid, does not mean he's a bad character. Characters are meant to reflect real people, and there are people just like Subaru in real life.

Episode 5 handled this and it isn't predetermined, Subaru's daily routine and the jokes the maids told changed completely with minimal input from him.

I know some people might think it's trolling to say Subaru is the best MC of the decade, but I sincerely believe he's up there among the best of MCs.

Ironically enough, the people whom have a problem with Subaru are the people who probably share more in common with him than anyone else, as you have to have an over inflated view of yourself (Just like Subaru) to not be able to realize that his actions aren't that far from how any person in his situation would act.
