I don't know, really. Maybe it's the fact no one really recognizes them and considers them essentially more mature and idolizable. I think I even have memories from the broadcast that they grew taller. At least when transforming to different disguises they were definitely more mature looking, for example in scenarios where it was required to pretend an adult profession. Of course you can pass this as "thinking too much" and the series not making much logical sense in any way, but I always believed this as it seems to be totally in line with the teenage girl fantasy of becoming magically more mature.

Granted, I haven't watched Moon since 90's so most of this can be just wrongly remembered assumptions.
