Doctors always warn against sticking anything inside your ear smaller than your elbow. Earwax should fall out on its own. Swimming can also be useful for cleaning out your ears.

I've used Q-tips my entire life. Apparently, it can often just push the ear wax deeper, and that can accumulate at your ear drum. But it feels good, and I only do it once a week, so I'm not too worried.

It'll cause some issues, probably just minor ones. The Japanese actually use ear picks, which are potentially more dangerous (if you're stupid and stab all the way down), but are much more effective at picking out wax.

Really the proper way is to use an ear syringe. You get get them at a pharmacy and flush your ears with saline or whatever just like a real doctor would if you had excessive earwax.

It can cause infections, but that's why you dip it in alcohol first. Accumulated wax tends to come out in flakes with that added in, so it solves both problems at once.

I wasn't talking about infections, using a q-tip might cause some minor ear wax impacts since it's easier to push it back. Using a pick you're more likely to actually properly get wax out. Flushing your ear with saline is the safest and most effective way to clear your ears.

I don't think you're going to get an infection from a clean q-tip in your ear canal. If you want you could buy sterile ones but it's pointless unless you have an open wound in your ear.

You shouldn't put alcohol or peroxide inside your ear canals. They can cause damage and dryness. You want to take out excess earwax, not damage the thin layer of earwax and the surface in the ear canal.

It probably only happens when idiots strip away their earwax with alcohol. Earwax is to protect your ear canals from infection and other issues. If you introduce solvents into your ears you're just increasing the risk of infection in the long term.
