The representation on /a/ is biased. Take TV for example - no sane man would come up with idea that he SHOULD watch all of the things airing on TV, regardless of genre and target auditory - be it 3yo kids, adult entertainment or simple talkshow.

1) Cut your anime consumption, become desinterested in general. Theres lots of people on /a/ that dont belong here, becasue they dont actually "watch anime", but did so at some point of the past. The interest is gone, and now they have nummerous excuses to not watch it and shit on medium. Its also the type that picks random hyped normalfag titles in hope to reawaken their like for anime.
2) Older, for longer time exposed to big amount of anime people:
- are more sentimental, having prefference for romance young dont show
- have hard realities in real life, tired from work and wishing entertainment and not turning watching anime to work itself: thus simplier, entertaining titles
- know that most "serious" anime is in fact - shit (at least by other medium`s standards). Measured against higher standards, they almost always end up disappointment.

I don't know why you are mentioning TV shows for 3y.o.'s, talk shows, and "adult entertainment" together. Anime is not the only kind of TV show that airs in Japan, but is a limited subset in a subset already.

Even comparing apples to apples isn't appropriate because scripted television is pretty limited in America and animated television shows not intended for young children are much more limited. There's the 50th season of The Simpsons, 17th season of Family Guy, maybe some other stupid cartoon on Fox or FX, and then a few stupid shorts made by stoned college kids on Adult Swim. When I was into western cartoons, yes I did I try to watch all of those every season. Anime is inherently different, though, because the volume of quality shows is so much higher. Instead of 6 cartoons per season, with maybe 2 of those being decent, there are 30+ anime with 10-20 of those being decent.

I don't think you're on the right track here. When I was still in college, I didn't exactly have "hard" days of work, and I was able to enjoy both simple and serious anime simultaneously.

Mob Psycho and Love live are the only series I'm still watching, not counting second seasons and leftovers from the previous season.

I'm not even really interested in Love Live so I guess it's just Mob Psycho for me this season. There's a few other series that I picked up the mangas for and lost interest in the series as a result.

I've only watched Mob Psycho, Thunderbolt Fantasy, and Re:Zero. I've enjoyed them all, so I guess they're all good tier. Arslan and 91 Days seem to be rated highly here, especially Arslan.

The Zestaria anime seems to have high placement in most of the /a/non's lists. Is it really that good? I found the game's story to be boring, but I guess the anime would be a lot better without Baba being involved.
