Of course it's Aniplex so it's probably slightly underestimated and they've yet to throw in any sort of event ticket. Aniplex shit selling better than most things really should never come as a surprise since they stuff their packages with tons of extras and shit to take advantage of all the popular staff and voice casts. A couple years into this and people still don't know what's ranking high, what's actually racking up decent and consistent preorder numbers, when the episode boosts are, what has event tickets, what pull those event tickets have and what the natural drops in rank throughout a week or into a shows run actually foretell. It's been ranked #1 on Oricon every day since it went up but has virtually no competition this week aside from the Free movie which is going to sell the bulk of it's units through DVD anyway cause you know fujoshi and all. It's also a half week for Delta so that could hurt it's chances of crossing 10K in it's first week.

Late night anime had a decent run for a few years from the turn of the decade to about early 2014 but has returned to the absolute ass middling potential market it was in the early 2000's pretty quickly in the last couple years with no signs of a revival any time soon. I don't blame more producers and studios for opting to go into making movies more and more now as the market potential is clearly much higher at the moment.

Chinese streaming websites buy anime licenses every season for every popular show. These websites are not small fish like Crunchyroll, they are sponsored by massive IT giants like Tencent or Baidu.
And then there is Netflix and Amazon, more keen on just producing anime for their library. They pay huge amounts for traditional licenses (which are non permanent), and original shows are still expensive as hell. Anime in contrast is extremely cheap to produce, thus a good financial investment even if viewership isn't great.

Even smaller IPs are still highly valuable. Just look at the craze for Pokemon go, without the pokemon IP, it wouldn't have been nearly as successful.
Of course most anime are not comparable to Pokemon, but Nintendo's stock rose 20 billion USD in market value due to this one game. Even 1% of this value is a huge boon to a regular anime studio.

Anime in terms of market conditions is an absolute golden age, only surpassed by the Japanese bubble era.
