It's just a huge undertaking. As much as people love to shit on Miura, he does a lot of work to get Berserk out with the quality it has (last chapter omitted). Even having a good budget and a team of talented animators, it's far from the kind of series that can fit in a weekly 30 minute format, but it's also so vast that monthly OAVs would move at a snails pace to try and cover everything. And that's without questioning if such a format could even be profitable.

Back in the 90s everyone was pestering Lucas to make a sequal to the original trilogy, but he didn't want to so he tried contacting different directors. Unfortunately no one wanted to do it because "they didn't want to be the person everyone would blame if it bombed" so you know what happened next.

I have a feeling this is how Berserk has been treated, no credible director/studio felt confident enough that they could do justice for a new Berserk anime but eventually Miura let some nobody shit studios produce this abomination, probably as just an advertisement for the manga that he's doing again

That's the usual problem with overly literal adaptations of manga. Hellsing Ultimate and FMA:B had the same problem. One-panel gags that you just glanced over become ten-seconds-long scenes that you can't just ignore and they break the pacing and mood so fucking hard.

Clone Wars is possibly the most expensive CGI series ever produced. Lucas put his own money into the series at the beginning, to the point that some episodes had a $1 million budget per episode.

Not sure if it is the same studio though. Clone Wars started off animated in Singapore.

I just caught up on the third episode. Its so weird that the first half of that episode was pretty much a frame by frame recreation of the manga and then suddenly they spin off into that abandoned village yet keep everything from the manga like Rape horse and Farnese being possessed. Originally the dogs were just wild and got possessed by the evil spirits. We didn't need some weird half baked apostle in charge of the dogs.

The best way I'd describe this adaptation is confusing and jarring. They keep stuff like the sacrifice tree but cut out the lost children arc and make the tree turn into a demon. Theres just so many weird choices.

honestly, Westerners just do cgi better than the Japanese. there are a lot of digital artists who have been working in 3d for many year, whereas the best artists in Japan the better animators still predominantly draw and teach 2d. They just don't have the years of trainings and experience in the industry yet. My thought process was basically that the cut off for getting a second season is usually 2k blue ray sales. Hence we can conclude that it takes ~2k blue ray sales for shows to break even and be profitable. If it takes post hoc sales to make a show profitable then they would be incentivized to make a quality product.

In the 4th episode of this new anime they flash back to the BONFIRE OF DREAMS episode of the manga/97 anime and it's the exact same shot from the 97 anime in a newer art style.
