There are no "different circumstances" is the point. Shichika wouldn't have known to spare her in the same way Meisai wouldn't have lived with a hole in her chest--all of existence is conditioned. She was brought death by the same thing that brought her happiness: would you have her live a longer life if it meant never knowing that happiness? And in Shichika's case: wasn't Meisai's death what made start to see what he was doing? Would you have another die instead of her? If you say you would because she's a good person, is not the fact that she's good that made him see that and so, would it not require another good person to die in the same way? She's irreplaceable (being best girl and all), no? Her place in the world is also irreplaceable.
