Kindaichi cases are usually spread over more episodes (3-4 is pretty normal) so the suspects (not always 3 like most Conan cases) are developed more and it's more fun as a viewer to try and work out who did it.

Kindaichi really doesn't have as strong a plot as Conan though. In Conan you always have the Black Organization cases to look forward to but Kindaichi is mostly just murder of the week.

Overall, I think Conan is better.

Well, detective fiction is a popular genre in japan and asia in general but somehow not so much in the west. There are tons of mystery anime/vns coming out each year with Subete, Sakurako, Danganronpa and Rokka no Yuusha being the recent good ones, but I rarely see people talking about this genre as a whole, so I just want to know how you guys feel about it. Are you trying to solve the case while watching these shows or do you tend to sit back and watch how everything turns out.

Case Closed is the English dub name Viz gave to the series. Detective Conan is its original name from Japan.

Best setting's got to be "We're somehow stuck in this goddamn mansion in the middle of nowhere with people dying one by one and no police until morning".
