This. I'll add that 1 takes too fucking long to get to the point and isn't particularly interesting until then, but the biggest issue is that it fizzles out like a broken light at the end.

2 is crap, only liked because of nostalgia. It's extremely repetitive and it hinges on the villain capturing the heroes by accident and leaving them unattended in the room where he stored the legendary birds like a retard. Really weak writing.

I've heard this rumor before (like three years before), but I still don't know where it comes from. Bad subs? Mew doesn't advocate genocide in the movie. It just says that the originals will always be stronger than the copies, not that the clones should be wiped out.

Pokemon 3 is half-decent as an actual movie. I liked the imaginary friends and the psycho Unknown magic that brought them to life. The dub score is well done too.

3 is probably the best from an objective standpoint. You can go into the movie with literally 0 knowledge of pokemon and figure out the gist of what's going on and none of the conflict requires prior knowledge. I still really liked 1 and 2 but I'm aware of how much nostalgia helps me ignore the problems with the movies.

Too bad that has no bearing on the actual quality of the result. Nintendo has no problem slapping Pokemon onto anything - merchandising is practically what made the Pokemon empire. Being 'protective' just means that when they slap the Pokemon name onto something, they would prefer to ONLY put the Pokemon name so that it gets the focus, that's all.
