>>
>>144435525
If you think Gash isn't the epitome of generic you're trolling. Putting aside the fact that the main character gets over his so called social anxieties and becomes a regular brave shounen protagonist guy in the first few chapters, which is complete shit in terms of characterization, the basic pattern of every "arc" (if you can even call them that) is so painfully plain that I had to physically force myself to keep reading this trash.
>new demon/human pair are introduced
>minimal effort is put into their characterization
>they battle
>gash learns a new spell
>ZAKERUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
>demon dies, gash cries
>I PROMISE I'LL BE A KIND KING
>the characters are forgotten forever and no progress was made
It's so insultingly formulaic, that I'm genuinely baffled as to how anyone can fail to see it as the generic "villain of the week" trash that it is.

Perhaps if the pacing was better, if the pattern didn't repeat itself so many times, it could be more bearable to read, but it's an old manga with old standards. If the overarching "plot" went anywhere interesting I certainly couldn't be fucked to read another hundred chapters to see where.

You mean the manga or anime OP?

Manga is one of the best things in the world.
Anime is meh but the music numbers are fun.
>>
>>144435760
That's really only in the first volume or so.
You obviously haven't read it a lot of shounen manga, since most of them take a bit for them to settle into place. Stuff like Bleach was generic monster of the week before Soul Society too.

Gash has cool battles and great character building with some genuinely emotional moments. If you're unable to appreciate that you simply have bad taste.

The real reason not to like it is if you don't like its zany style and weird-ass comedy. I think it's perfectly understandable if such a style is not for you, but that's just a question of preference.

My advice is try and actually read something before you criticize it.

Calm down anon, no need throw a fit.

It's obvious from your post that you didn't read very far. The beginning is formulaic, but it sets up the concept and setting while introducing the characters. After that it gets a lot more well-paced with big story arcs. The Faudo arc is especially pretty good.

What you've done is like dropping a game in its tutorial.

It was explained that he couldn't talk to fish and therefore they weren't sentient and that they could therefore eat them.

At the end he also talks to a whale but that's not a fish so doesn't count.

Gash Bell is a fucking textbook example of a good battle shonen targeted towards a young audience.
It's got everything:
good comedy
serious scenes but never gets 3edgy6me. Ultimately doesn't take itself too seriously.
a varied cast: it's impossible not to find at least one character that you like
a simple, but still engaging, plot
good, interesting, fights
power of friendship
all that shit about being kind, learning how to make friends, etc.
It's everyting that should be in a kids manga. Anons complaining about it are just too old and expect something more deep and mature from an anime aimed towards kids.

The early Shaman King art was absolutely the best and the "pretty boy" designs got absolutely repulsive and Deviantart Snapesnogger-tier as the series went on. He was still obviously skilled but the character art took a HUGE step downward.

I've not read Bell but from what I've seen the art looks kinda standard and not special in some ways but it definitely has a charm to it and I'm sure there are some really good panels/spreads to punctuate important moments like >>144434102

The thing about Raiku is that the he can drawn really detailed and fairly realistic stuff if he wants to. Just take a look at the shit he did in Doubutsu.

But the way he draws in Gash (and Vector Ball for that matter) is not like that. It's rough and simplistic, but it's chock-full of charm and personality. It's really a matter of preference if you like that style or not.

Most anons think that many details = quality and sadly thinks he's not a good artist. It's really a shame.

If I have to be honest, Raiku just takes a while to build up his world, like around 30-40 chapters. Gash Bell had a very slow start then it peaked at Faudo. The ending was a little underwhelming but it did the job. Hoping Vector Ball is the same

A friend constantly tells me to read it too, I won't forget. Don't worry.

I'm kinda catching up on old popular shonens I've not bothered with for the 11 years I've been into anime now, for example I've been watching Ashita no Joe S1 and now I'm watching S2 which are both amazing (though the manga arguably did the Carlos fight better than either anime). Also marathoning Yu Yu Hakusho and I'm looking forward to the tournament arc that has a bunch of Shinbo-directed episodes and genereally great visuals. Also reading all that's available of Cyborg 009.

I'm gonna pick up the original Dragonball properly too (but switch to the manga in the episodes where the budget-saving gets really bad)

So yeah I have a lot of stuff to watch/read but I'll get into Gash eventually

I liked the ending. Everyone taking their powers to the absolute limit, the party getting killed off one by one, a hugely OP final dungeon-esque boss and the finale where Gash gets empowered by all the demons he met during the series. Shit was fun.
I don't get why people have a problem with it.

And after it there was the epilogue and the final battle with Brago.
I can't think of a better way to end of the series.

The Clear arc was a little contrived to me, but it was very fitting for Brago and Gash to be the final two. I'll give you that.
>>
>>144438988
All the stuff you mentioned was cool. The Final Boss however is really boring.

What else should it have done?
It already had an antagonist which had a clear relation to Gash and who was eventually redeemed.

I think it was natural that they next went for an irredeemable asshole.
I dunno, his annihilation magic felt really dangerous and I liked how the arc really emphasized that only a few of the strongest competitors were left.

Love the manga
It was a time before shonen devolved into whatever the hell it is now
>>
One day I'll finish Gash. 200 chapters to go.

Read it a while ago, and am reading again. On 58. My nose is clogged. Eyes red. Too many tears. Also I can't seem my text on phone. I hate portrait mode.

DnK dropped in quality hard when chimeras happened in my opinion.

Yeah, I think the first part was much better than the second half.
I don't think there was anything wrong with scaling up the narrative. The manga couldn't continue as it had up until that point anyways, but the chimera really clashed with the rest of the story.

Holy fuck are people translating Vector Ball?

I only just found out the other day and made a thread asking why more than the first chapter wasn't done.

I'd be fine with this if we actually had a decent release in the U.S.

Also holy shit Raiku looks old. Was he always this old looking?

I'm kind of disappointed that Animal Land didn't get an anime adaption after it finished it's run.

Raiku's usually has all these goofy songs in his series and I want to hear them.

Knowing my luck, Vector Ball will get an anime and then get a crappy "original" ending.

I always picture Raiku as a dorky kid.
But yeah, I guess most mangaka get old after their second long serialization.

Doubutsu never really seemed like anime material to me.
I would love to see it as a movie or something though.
>>
A Raiku thread that didn't die out immediately.
Color me surprised.
>>
>>144443839
I could see it running for a 52 episode series. 39 at least.

It might come off as slower paced though, but I think there is enough material for it.

Zatch Bell was like a more traditional, more positive shounen version of Death Note (well, Zatch Bell came first, so Death Note is the less tradional, depressing version of Zatch Bell).

>Kiyo was the most intelligent boy in class, who was bored with life.
>He gets a book and a demon, that forces him to change (in this case) for the best.
