There's many other things that go unnoticed. Sasha and Eren hiding the same way, Marco and Marlo dying by the same plagues. It's hard not to repeat yourself when you write something. You can tell that Historia's past was all made up as a last moment thing. Besides, Eren's mom and many other being eaten by titans is sot such a strong coincidence with Rosa being killed because she was a whore.

I don't know why Isayama is so afraid to kill off characters. He has way too many to handle as it is and that's why most of them suffer from lack of development. Look at SC for instance. They contributed nothing to the story after the Utgard arc and they didn't grow much as characters either. Them being alive still tells me it's more than preserving fujofavs. Keeping around so many pointless characters is just stupid and takes all suspense away from the story.

The thing is, the trainee corps were hyped up at the begining to be this harsh, competitive spartan program that only the best of the best complete let alone prevail in. But then you see how literally everyone in the main cast made it to the top 10 there even complete dumbasses like SC. And you see all these hardened veterans of that harsh training completely lose their shit the first time they come into battle, and it comes off as some edgy bullshit.

Actually focusing on the trainee corps would have had the opportunity to explain all of that and also give extra development to all characters so there would have been ambiguity who would die and we would actually give a shit.

DESU, even if it meant we got to the action later, it probably would have been a better use of our time that whatever's been going on for the last two arcs.

It was just really stupid, the soldier was just injured for the sake of the foreshadowing, and nobody mentioned nothing about the final exams later.
