I think even the game itself focused on Sorey/Mikleo's relation moreso than most others, even that (as well as Sorey and Mikleo as individuals) were shafted alongside everyone else. When you think about it, it's not that their relationship is 'developed' - rather it's stagnant entirely after they 'make up' in Ladylake. But rather, there was more care and focus towards it than others. Even then, I wouldn't say Zestiria was 'about' their relationship because there were many things that could've been done with them.

You can tell someone fucked up with Zestiria's script. There's something off about it even when you consider Tales of's standards.

I tried playing the game but on a technical level it felt like I was emulating a PSP game, the combat system is an awful hybrid between real time action and traditional RPG and the story is presented mostly through text boxes or crude in-game cinematics. Interestingly the best parts were the animated movies. Is this what weeb games have to offer? I see no reason to waste 40+ hours when, going with what we've seen so far, the anime is such a vastly superior experience. Finding Alisha in the game consisted on running through some copy-pasted corridors whacking spiders with a stick, it was embarrassing.

It did, but even that wasn't much. The only real time it focused on them was during the break up/make up scenario and then after their shared past was revealed during Camlann. But as we see there's a lot more to their relationship than just that, both as individuals and as a pair. They got some level of care but it wasn't much, it's just like how Alisha was really the only character to have a character arc in the game proper, but it ultimately didn't add up to much. So can really see the areas where the game could have improved and their relationship is really one of them.

It seemed more like the story was more focused on getting to it's destination rather than have us experience the journey there. Ultimately Sorey and Mikleo's relationship was a part of that destination.

The Yaoi isn't a real thing, but boy this game sure gave shippers plenty to work with.

It has plagued the threads for the entire duration it has been around.

Well they're treating Mikleo as though he's the heroine of Zestiria, which I think is because he's a character that genuinely safe for them to use since he's generally liked by the fans so they use him in the place of the heroine, and he was also important to the central story and his relationship with Sorey.

As everyone has pointed out in previous threads the main problem with Zestiria comes from it's setting and usage of malevolence which means that other characters can't ever truly doubt themselves. Plus Sorey and Mikleo's relationshp is partially fueled by doubts and insecurity, and in order to develop it they'd need to have Sorey and Mikleo acknowledge that doubt and insecurity, but the setting makes it so that if they do they'll become hellions. Which in hindsight may be one of the reasons for the popularity of the Tainted AU.

Well from a narrative perspective Alisha's story despite the fact that it is divorced from Sorey's story is actually also important to plot of Zestiria, as she needs to succeed in order for you to reach your destination. Yeah especially since their morals and stories were already connected to one another. Rose being an assassin who works to bring about peace through murder and Alisha who uses diplomacy to achieve the same ends, also their personalities Rose is emotionally stronger and more sure of herself, which Alisha isn't or rather she seemed to lose confidence in herself over the course of the story, only to regain it and achieve her goals, and everything ends up alright in the end. Having the two of them together can hopefully make us reach that goal much faster.

It also stops the writers from trying to force Rose to be Sorey's foil, which just had the effect of making her look like a sociopath, and made her too much like a Mary Sue.

Yeah there's nothing explicitly gay going on, but you'd have to be blind not to see how homoromantic the subtext of this adaptation has been so far.
