Why would you list which anime you watched?
I am legitimately curious, it is not as if you would watch it twice by accident if you didn't write it down and even if you totally forget about it you will probably remember it once someone mentions it or makes a thread about it.
>>
I like Taiga because it keeps track of what episode I'm on when I might otherwise forget if I haven't watched an episode of something in a while. I tend to watch a lot of anime all at once and it might be days or weeks before I watch another episode of this one series. Backlog things obviously, current stuff you just watch when it comes out.

I implore you to try taiga, it changed my life. Why perform manual labour when we are in the age of automation? Let intelligent software automatically detect what exact episode of what show you are watching and silently update the database in the background.

Everyone should be using taiga. It helps keep track of everything, as well as detects new episodes on TT or nyaa using an RSS feed. You can even choose what fansubs you want. 1008It also helps if you don't want to organize your folders of anime and want to rewatch something.

taiga dot moe if anyone is interested.

>As far as I know Taiga uses MAL database, why wouldn't you use MAL in that case?
Can use both MAL and Hummingbird

Taiga keeps an offline database locally as xml files so I it doesn't matter whether MAL is being slow or the servers are down, I can just make changes to my local database and it will sync with my MAL later. I don't have to deal with the online interface that relies on an active internet connection and can just interact with the offline database.

>For RSS and the like, your torrent client should be able to do that.
Yeah, and I was using qbittorent's internal RSS to handle this before but taiga makes it easier with smart RSS filters, so I don't have to make or modify rules each season, just tag a show as "watching".

>>144299321
The stuff on hold is just a couple OVAs and stuff like City Hunter and Patlabor TV which are tons of episodic episodes that one can get quickly burnt out on if binged. So I ration them every now and then rather than binge through.

And yeah, plenty of shit to watch. Even seasonal airing stuff keeps me pretty busy.
>>
>>144297453
MAL. Discussing it or bringing it up on /a/ shouldn't be allowed, but it does help me out not to bother with what chapter I am on in manga I stopped reading for a while and forgot what chapter I am on, or what episode I am on in some long anime I watch simultaneously with current season's anime. It's convenient.

It also immediately helps out when you check anime's list and see that this anime has some special, OVA and etc (how I found Kino specials).

I hope I don't sound like shill and for the love of god just don't read the reviews and don't decide if you want to give anime a shot based on MAL's rating, now that's cancer.

Anime News Network is the superior website, and even that isn't all too good (except for its Answerman Articles - those are very informative).

There is no need to track anything. You can never leave /a/, so eventually you'll reach the point where you have seen everything anyway. Then only the new stuff will matter. Every season I download the first few episodes, and decide what to watch based on it.

If you started recently and you still have a backlog, you could do the same thing backwards. Get the first few eps of anime from the previous seasons, and pretend there are multiple seasons going on at the same time.
It would be interesting to have a someone newer do this, and see how far they make it back in time until they decide this is "too old fashioned".

The best way to ruin stealth advertising threads is to unironically advertise for their competitors.
So if for example a Crunchyroll-thread appears where the question again is why you don't stream, always put FUNimation in a good light (plus perhaps Daisuki). When FUNimation does the same, praise Crunchyroll (and also Daisuki).

It increases the chances for this threads to get attention by the moderators and it ruins the job of the shills.

>what exactly is wrong with rating stuff?
Personally it just feels like 10 point rating systems are not verbose enough to me and not an accurate enough descriptor. Rather than numerical rating we should aspire to descriptive measures, a work cannot be defined as simply a point on a line, it may transcend those boundaries and be described in that a way that does not limit itself to any mathematical and absolute discrete representation.

Would you rate a piece of art in a gallery on ten point scale? "Damn man, that Birth of Venus shit is like a 9/10". No matter how shitty a show, book, manga/comic, cave painting; it is a work of art and to rate it on a discrete scales seems like injustice to the whole idea of a qualitative evaluation.

Also recently the scale has become too positively weighted where an average score is a 7/10 where it used to be 5/10. This results in the lower end of the scale becoming arbitrary and losing and evaluative meaning.

There's some truth to your statement, I mean a better system could be made I suppose, it's just hard to imagine how or what. You are still a retard if you forget which shows you watched. Don't try and say "OH WELL I WATCH SOOO MANY".

Nobody is expecting you to remember the entire show. Just the general name of the show and what it was about. Also, if you are marathoning shows to the point where they all blur together and you can't remember shit from them, you clearly aren't watching them properly. If you are watching them just to check them off a list you don't really like them and should probably find a hobby that does engage you.

It does. Shows before the early 1990 are simply not available (and for a good reason). Only the really famous ones are. There are also much less shows every year as you go back in time.

I remember if I've watched something, I remember where I dropped something (if I drop it).
If I want to double check something why would I go check a MAL or notepad list, when I have them all sitting on my drive (in a list/alphabetical order format) already?
I understand why people would want a list but you already have a list from when you download them into your anime folder.

Drop lists still count towards overall scores because everyone (except you apparently) still rates shows they drop.

Even if they didn't, that would only serve to weaken your argument...

A system to keep track of what you watched? Perfect.

Besides from the ugly looking website that's somehow worse than Facebook, the rest is pretty much cancerous. The articles are cringe worthy and bias. The scores are all wrong because people score shows badly due to various reasons. See here >>144297689 for an example. The reviews are written by children who literally have no idea how to review something. Apparently using buzzwords and writing some bullshit analysis seems legit to people these days. Oh and don't get me started on the discussion section. This is why I never rely on that site to get a good idea if a show is worth watching or not.

>>
>>144309605
Pretty much. If you're someone with at least a shred of self respect you'd stay away from everything besides the list tracking system on that site. The community there is the worst I have seen on the internet, and I've been here since the late 90's. Your average forum poster has memes in his signature, posts filthy frank and one punch man memes, considers the fate franchise to be the greatest work of fiction and has the birth year of somewhere between 1995-2001 shown on their profile. The circle jerking is worse than that of reddit, blocking any type of free speech you're allowed there (as forums mods are the biggest circle jerkers and will defend any franchise you post a negative opinion towards), you're being considered a troll for posting an opinion, for being politically incorrect and literally for just posting anything there really. The discussions are brain-dead consisting of one-word replies (truly the epitome of lazy shit-posters), spoilers never being moderated and longer posts consisting of defending shit shows (fate) and waifu wars. Not to mention the site itself seems to be getting progressively worse with implementing useless features and bloatware, and removing older more useful functions with each update.

Needless to say I had a bad expreience with MAL. Although 4chan is pretty shit too in many ways, at least I can say FUCK YOU NIGGER without getting banned. I've been banned at least 4-5 times on MAL, and was active there for around half a year in the period of 2015, while not realising how cancerous that place it.

No one uses Trakt?

It' good enough for tracking both animation and live action. And it works with Emby/Plex/Kodi
>>
I've never tracked my watch list.

Sometimes I'll come across the title of a series that I had entirely forgotten and have vivid recollections of some of its scenes. I can never remember much about the plot or the character names; I just recall a few images here and there. This is generally accompanied by a wave of nostalgia for a time frame in my life that I had completely forgotten about, including some of the anime I watched surrounding the one I recognized, and whatever else I was doing on another monitor at that time. A game, sometimes, or interactions with a small online group that I lost touch with long ago. I feel a little sad when I remember the experience of days floating by without worry, and I realize that it will never be like that again.

If I start tracking them, I might "use up" all of my nostalgic flash backs.

You talk like a fag and your shits all retarded

>Also recently the scale has become too positively weighted where an average score is a 7/10 where it used to be 5/10
We live in an era saturated in media like never before. The more there is to watch the higher your standards can be without having a scarcity of things to watch. The average is 7/10 because 5-6/10s can be safely ignored, mediocre as they are. Also as >>144315115 points out the difference between 1-4/10 is almost meaningless and a 5-6/10 is just something marginally better than bad so it's not worth recommending either.

Personally I like a base 9 rating system just to have three degrees of dislike, three degrees of indifference or confliction, and 3 degrees of liking something.

Shouldn't length count for something? Someone who has only watched Gintama has watched much more anime time wise than someone who has only watched Noucome and Kill La Kill, but that person has watched more than someone who watched Bikini Warriors, Woozer and Miss Monochrome

How do you guys find the time to watch this much anime?

But if it is lengthy, it means that it is a shitty battle shounen so it evens out.

Honestly, as much as people shit all over MAL, you can get recommendations from people who actually liked the show you liked. I cannot argue with people that have demonstrably excellent taste. It's a good way to keep track of stuff, and also I've discovered things like specials and other seasons of anime I watched a long time ago. OBV, stay off the forums or interacting with anyone there whatsoever.

>>144325261
>How do you judge how many series you've watched?
Who the fuck cares? If you're comparing dick size like that, go off hours watched, not shows.
>>
I'm suprised people hate MAL so much because of its userbase. Why would you be so retarded to visit ANY forum besides 4chan in the first place? Its a nice website to organize your stuff, and maybe compare with your friends. Thats about it.
>>
>>144327839
you don't ever have to visit it, just use taiga.

Why am I not surprised that a cancerous faggot who unironically uses MAL and rates Eva and FLCL as 10/0 haven't finished not even 200 shows?

I know a guy who outright refuses to watch Spirited Away just on the basis that Mononoke Hime was his favourite anime movie ever despite he has only seen a few.
He's even got a tatoo of a forest spirit on his leg.
What the hell I say.
>>
>>144327196
I mean, once you've seen a few episodes you've pretty much seen them all.

Unless you care that much about the "hours of anime watched" statistic

yeah no. idk which retard thinks this is ok but it's not. I often go to anilist and see what anime is airing and from there check mal to see which fansub group i should leech from.

this is so inconvenient but it has the latest and most updated db so you cock suckers will suck their dicks no matter what
