Alright, let's try.

Is Japanese the most JUST language in existence? It's terribly inefficient, vague and retarded. They spend so much time coming up with letters that they forget to express something meaningful with them, and when they try to do, they trip over their retarded grammar.

Anki isn't supposed to be the focus of your studies, reading and listening should always come first when you're able to do so

You don't learn anything from doing anki, it just reminds you of shit, vocab and whatever else doesn't solidify inside your memory until you encounter them enough times in native material

>You don't learn anything from doing anki, it just reminds you of shit
You make it sound like anki is useless when most vocab can be studied just fine through anki alone. There isn't some switch in your brain for each word that only gets flipped once you remember it on your own outside of anki.

Of course you can't learn a language just through grinding vocab, but trying to gain vocab without dedicating half an hour a day or so to anki is an absolute waste of time. Why do people promoting reading always have to do so while acting like anki is poison?

When I regained my senses my feet were already faltering after sending the powder to the women's dormitory, I ate the Soijoi I received from the god Abura. However, my mind and body, comanded by the exhaustion, made me think in throwing the pack as it was in the dormitory's electric stove, and with it's full force it started to warm me.
But I probably ate something warm for dinner. That's what it really was. I was deeply moved though, like a boy who clings to the show window yearning for a trumpet - that's how close it was.
But what was happening in front of me wasn't a gentleman who buys and gifts a trumpet to a strange kid, it was a microwave baptism. When I thought the meat in the stove was shining brighter, there was an explosion like the sound of a buffon's joke along with the sparks from the bag in the fire, and the breaker of the dormitory went flying.
- So, as divine punishment, I won't be getting any breakfast.

I know that anki is a really useful tool obviously, I wasn't trying to make it sound like it's pointless, I just hate it when everyone acts like anki is the cornerstone of language learning, it shouldn't be treated like the primary activity you should be doing, it should be treated as a supplement to reading just to remind you of vocabulary that you're not encountering in native material

If we're talking about warming up, that bag I ripped to the best I could should've gone to the electric stove.
...No, even before, when I was a kid yearning for a trumpet clinging in the show window, if there's something as a law of equality, that breaker wouldn't have flown, and assuming I could eat a Soijoi as a warm dinner, wouldn't there be the possibility of me being a first grade Jazzman who'd enliven the entire world in the future?
Starting from the lowest place possible, my jazz life was waved up and down but, ultimately I'd welcome my final moments while watching over my seven children and thirty grandchildren.
"It was a wonderful life. There were times of mistakes but, after overcoming them I was able to arrive to this happiness. I am grateful. To god, and to the origin of everything, the warm Soijoi in the electric stove..."
My hand, who could handled the trumpet that much skillfully, couldn't move anymore. However it was just as warm from my wife and children strongly holding my hands. And while feeling that, I quietly departed this world.

Done.
Sooo long, and long sentences are kinda hard because I think it's easy to mix one with another and get something weird in there.
Anyway this was my attempt, if there are any errors you can spot please comment on, I'll appreciate.

M-m-master, when I was on the Quasar I had a paracoita, a doll, you see, a genicon, so beautiful with her great pupils as dark as wells, her i-irises purple like asters or pansies blooming in summer, Master, whole beds of them, I thought, had b-been gathered to make those eyes, that flesh that always felt sun-warmed. Wh-wh-where is she now, my own scopolagna, my poppet? Let h-h-hooks be buried in the hands that took her! Crush them, Master, beneath stones. Where has she gone from the lemon-wood box I made for her, where she never slept at all, for she lay with me all night, not in the box, the lemon-wood box where she waited all day, watch-and-watch, Master, smiling when I laid her in so she might smile when I drew her out. How soft her hands were, her little hands. Like d-d-doves. She might have flown with them about the cabin had she not chosen instead to lie with me. W-w-wind their guts about your w-windlass, stuff their eyes into their mouths. Unman them, shave them clean below so their doxies may not know them, their lemans may rebuke them, leave them to the brazen laughter of the brazen mouths of st-st-strumpets. Work your will upon those guilty. Where was their mercy on the innocent? When did they tremble, when weep? What kind of men could do as they have done—thieves, false friends, betrayers, bad shipmates, no shipmates, murderers and kidnappers. W-without you, where are their nightmares, where are their restitutions, so long promised? Where are their chains, fetters, manacles, and cangues? Where are their abacinations, that shall leave them blind? Where are the defenestrations that shall break their bones, where is the estrapade that shall grind their joints? Where is she, the beloved whom I lost?

it was after sending the powder to the women's dormitory (足下が覚束なかった = could this be as in regretting one's actions?)

Don't get Taiko for jap practice though, that's ridiculous. There's like no text and the story is shit. I would only get a vita for jp practice if you're past the point where you need texthookers, otherwise stick to PC

My mind and body mixed (formula, equation -> mixture) together with exhaustion, I got what I could think of and threw it as it was into the electric stove inside the pack,
(mental gymnastics here)
> 全力で『あたため』を開始してしまった。
And with full strength (of the stove?) it started to warm it up.

This was the most difficult line for me. I interpret the whole of 心身ともに疲弊しきっていた僕は何を思ったのか as the kind of additional commentary you some times see. So, basically,
What was I thinking in? I threw it in the microwave still in the package
>全力で『あたため』を開始してしまった。

It being もらったそれ instead of just それ kind of gives me the impression that the commentary could be in regards to もらった instead though

But its more about the Kanji. I mean do you REALLY need that many complex characters to form simple words?
>>
>>144312129
You get used to it

They have their advantages, although kanji is responsible for like 70% of the time spent learning the language
>>
>>144312129
When you get to the point where you can figure a words' meaning by their kanji you start thinking they're worth it.

Also, for reading I think they're a must, different from speech where you can assume you'll know the context, when reading you don't have such assumptions.
>>

Kanji is largely to thank for Japanese students showing a higher grade of retention than other cultures and languages, likely because kanji makes them read in terms of concepts and not literal words.

most jukugo (kanji compounds) use onyomi
土曜(ドヨウ)
犬猿(ケンエン)
忌憚(キタン)

most words with kana mixed in use kunyomi
盛り土(もりつち)
負け犬(まけいぬ)
憚る(はばかる)

this is true about 80% of the time, but there are exceptions to both (more for the first rule than the second), you are expected to memorize these

When do most people give up on learning Japanese. Genuine question.

I am just starting (started about 1 month ago) And I haven't lost my motivation yet.

I want to know when most people drop off so that I know when I finally pass the great filter of drop outs.
>>
>>144338778
I took japanese in high school and a lot of people never grasped and/or gave up at passive and causative verbs, which is towards the end of basic grammar

I'm guessing they knew maybe ~150 kanji at most which is more than you'd expect from a lazy normalfag, but still basically illiterate

I've never met someone who "gave up" at an intermediate stage, they simply lost interest

Just read the page about Hangeoul in Wikipedia and learn the sounds. Should take you more than a couple hours to learn and 3 days to get used to it.

After that, well... you already have Japanese under your belt, so grammar will be easy. Start acquiring vocabulary. Maybe start with some k-pop lyrics and a dictionary.
>>
>>144343377
Anki distinguishes "notes" (a pile of associated fields) from "cards" (a question-answer pair using a particular note). Are you saying that for every "note" you make (every word you mine) you want to make two cards, one of which is reversed? In order to do that, you make a second note type with a different format.

Surely there's a guide somewhere out there with some better instructions. Like "this site is good", "this vocab deck is good" etc. Of course first I have to learn Hangeoul and then some basic grammar and vocab - I'm just looking for a good starting source.

Wikipedia's hangul information is actually pure trash. It's based on the archaic pronunciation of hangul instead of how the seoul dialect actually pronounces the characters, and wikipedia has much less information about korean phonolgoy than japanese phonology.

If I understood correctly, there is a difference about unchi being used when it's digested meet and unko when it's vegetable, but I didn't understand why unchi is the correct one.

Is meat a dominant criteria in defining shit? One bite rule?
What about vegans?

Does anyone else frequently catches himself thinking "nooo, that's cheating!" when reading kanjis outside of Anki, because it's like reviewing stuff earlier than you should?

I know it's a silly thought, but since Anki is my only source of DAILY study, whenever I do anything extra there is this cheating sensation. Guess my brain likes winning games fairly.

The spacing system that supermemo and anki use is actually optimized for random exposure to the information outside of the program. Systems that are more forgiving like wanikani are designed assuming that you're not going to see things outside of the system. That's what people mean when they say that anki/supermemo SRS is for "not forgetting what you already know".

に is actually an adverbial particle not a target particle, here it's making an "adverbial clause" as per the meaning of that phrase in traditional english grammar
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adverbial_clause

The right way to literally translate that sentence is probably as an infinitival phrase functioning as a special kind of adverbial clause.

>What way would be good to study listening comprehension?
(What way would be good for the purpose of studying listening comprehension?)

If you want to combine the targeting and adverbial mechanics under one term you can call it "indirect" or something.

How the fuck can you be doing Anki for "several years" and still have 600 daily reviews, plus 20 new words every day?

Just how many words do you have added and how many are you aiming for?

As an ESL, I have knowledge of around 30-40 thousand English words and I have ZERO impediment when trying to communicate.

That would amount to 1500~2000 days of ANKI (4~6 years) with a mean of 200 reviews per day.

If you're doing thrice that amount of reviews, you should have hoarded 40k words in 2 years and probably needn't learn many more.

Either this or your retention is so low you shouldn't be adding new cards at all. Were your numbers always this high?

>One of the discoveries made on the trip was the realization that I might be progressively outgrowing visual novels (or just Japanese media in general). I had visited Akihabara, the so-called Mecca of anime and related media, both during this visit and during the last. In contrast to my visit last year, my venture this year was grounded more in obligation than desire (e.g. “If I’m going to be in the area, I may as well pay Akihabara a visit). In noting this, I mean to point out that my drive (or passion) for the media has gradually subsided since the last year.

>Why do people promoting reading always have to do so while acting like anki is poison?
Because they're fucking idiots who don't know Japanese and likely aren't even studying. They're probably the sort of people who were too stupid to read the Anki user manual and couldn't figure it out then promptly gave up study altogether.
The sort of people who make up the sheer majority of those tho attempt to take up other languages in their free time.

You and I know how effective and useful it is, which is really all that matters at the end of the day.

Smart.fm had a small handful of different people for the voice recordings and they liked to mix it up a bit to give a greater impression of how Japanese sounds spoken by different ages and sexes. Sumo isn't really a popular thing for the youth so it makes more sense for an older voice to be talking about it.
