It's currently on Volume 3 AKA the Silver Gospel Incident. So, assuming the more-or-less speed of adopting 1 LN volume per year, around 7 years time or 12 years if we factor in Yumizuru's new crap he'll be shitting during that time.

HOWEVER! Both the first manga and the 4koma ended when they covered the entirety of the first seasons AKA the first three LN Volumes. Kinda the same thing with Sugar&Honey: it's ending is set around the time after the Silver Gospel incident (can't remember if the Sarashiki sisters did appear but, if it did, it doesn't seem to impact much). Haven't seen how the Laura spin-off turned out so no idea there.

Likely a mixture of a couple of things. He was able to release shit on a consistent basis up until Vol 6, then the anime came out and the popularity of the series exploded. Vol 8 didn't come out for another year and a half after Vol 7, and after that Yumizuru kept holding out from doing work, shitposting on Twitter pictures of him playing Airsoft, Pokemon (I remember he has a lvl 100 Farfetch'd), and of dogs. Part of me assumes he might have been short-changed somewhere in his contract because Media Factory was making bank of his series which is why he went into hiatus for that time (that's just what I inferred at the time).

So when Overlap, a new publisher made up of ex-Media Factory people popped up, he probably negotiated a better contract with them so IS would be published under them, which is also why the artstyle changed from Okuira to choco.

But even after that, he's only been able to write a new volume every year: to some extent I wouldn't be surprised if he idolized people like NisiOisin or Kamachi.exe at one point in terms of being prolific since putting out 7 volumes in a 2 year period is kind of impressive, though I wouldn't be surprised if he's just burnt out at this point. Doesn't help the anime sold more because of Char than Houki who is his waifu (and Rin is apparently based of his wife so I wonder if the fact she is ignored for the most part in the series suggests anything about his home situation).

She came into the anime earlier than she should of and was a major part of the reason a lot of the content from Vol 5/6 in the novels were skipped, like the Cannonball Fast competition, Ichika joining the student council, introducing us to Pikatan's older sister, having Ichika's bro actually get her number, some event with the bro's sister, etc etc.

My biggest issue is how Cecilia was supposed to have a shining moment where she goes all Jesus Yamato Strike Freedom and has a beam-bending contest with another beam-using IS and wins in a Pyrrhic victory. Where as in the anime she got 10 seconds of fighting against the same opponent before she got OHKO'd. Still mad.

I remember watching the first season of the anime years ago. It wasn't really special or unique and honestly, I didn't expect to be surprised by it because of the harem aspect. After seeing the second season the creators managed to disappoint even with my expectations being so god damn low. Most characters were the typical archetypes like earlier but they managed to make them EVEN MORE stereotypical by making the characters even flatter and the story that wasn't much to write home about was even worse because by that time, you would expect some more plot progression. Fuck, even other harems like Nichijou or To-Love-Ru at least gave some feeling of progress or more information about they live in (or come from). With IS however, it feels as if nothing happened between the last episode of season 1 and season 2 except for some additional "heroines".

So I thought "maybe the studio just made a butchered adaptation of the original light novels?" and decided to read the original ones. Not only are there little to no differences, it sometimes reads even more like a typical harem fantasy than the anime adaptation does. The lore or world behind all of it feels like a afterthought of which the author decided to put it in or let the publisher add it because it would be too much like other LNs otherwise. Sure, not every LN is a master piece and it shouldn't because face it, stuff like Index isn't really impressive either but come on, even with those LNs you get a world with some more interesting characters and stories in them. With IS however (especially in the later parts) it feels like EVERYTHING has been done before and better.

So /a/, is there something I'm just not seeing here? Something that actually makes it worthwhile? I can't for the love of god understand what people like about this.
