So he's not just a stereotypical Nazi dictator, but a mystic, and really not unlike his son at the end. 11. It's on my list of anime masterpieces. It's not that I like it the most, but it does things for me no other anime does. A lot of other anime I like I can just watch the current seasonal variation of it instead of rewatching.

According to the screenshots I took last time I saw it was October 2014 and I've really been jonesing for a rewatch lately now that you mention it. I try to rewatch shows after I forget certain events or twists from them like how Lelouch outsmarts Mao but every time I think about rewatching it I remember all the things I'm trying to forget.

I watched it the first time and thought it was amazing, then re-watched the first 3 episodes and... wow. The amount of plotholes, inconsistencies, etc stack up quick. Its still enjoyable but damn the writing is not nearly as tight as something like Death Note even though Geass tries its hardest to have smart writing

Also, I don't think Code Geass was trying to be Death Note in terms of "smart" writing, beyond the protagonist having plans. They were presented differently. The tone and style of the productions are nothing alike, so that sounds like a misjudgment on your part.

Code Geass is something you can enjoy re-watching thanks to its characters acting so effectively as a springboard for thoughts regarding the nature or morality in politics and war as well as the difference between the success of and attitudes towards various male and female archetypes as they are presented in that context. Code Geass gives you a lot to work with as long as you want to treat it as that sort of series, i.e. one that gives you things to think about.
