that's not how water works

that's not how anything works

There's nothing impossible about it but that air pocket would run out of oxygen content pretty quickly
>>
Actually, it is

Pirates of the caribbean teached me that.

Actually that is how old school diving bells work. The idea is that as long as you only intend to stay under the water for short periods, you can bring enough air with you to last the trip. The need to bring compressed air or have air pumped in from outside is only for when you want to stay under for hours at a time.

OP is an uneducated moron lol.

on the chance that you're not a native speaker, the past tense of teach is 'taught'
>>
>>144112605
The concept is completely solid. The only problem with it is that a wooden washtub wouldn't be airtight, so the air would all leak out before she could use it.

I wouldn't expect someone too stupid to use periods or capital letters to understand that, though.

and the rock would need to be about 10x larger to hold it down.
>>
>>144114865
The wash tub would be treated with tar, so it would be waterproof
>>
>>144114865
>something made to hold water wouldn't be watertight
You baka
>>
>>144116071
It needs to be airtight. Even if water can't get through, if air can it will leak from the top while water rises at the bottom.
>>
Works fine, I've done it with a plastic bucket in a pool before.
>>

Sounds like someone didn't finish high school

not leaking water=/=not leaking air.
Not leaking water is all about making the surface hydrophobic and mainly non-polar. Non-polar surface repels polar water molecules, but doesn't repel O2 which is non-polar molecule.

Can hold water but not air-sealed? That would be a pretty amazing material.

Oxygen is smaller than water so it can fit through places water can't
>>
>>144120887
Actually, O2 is larger than H2O.

What the fuck is this nigga saying?
>>
>>144120965
As the air leaks the water will rise into the container, the trouble is, you can't even get the air down there in the first place, if you put the tub upside down in the water it would float, and a rock on it, it would still float, because of the buoyancy, and if you tried to drag it down it would become unstable and flip over, also she is attempting to breath upside down which can be difficult underwater
>>
>>144117091
Take a balloon for example. You can fill it with air and over time it deflates because it is NOT airtight and gases such as hydrogen can escape it. However, if you fill it with water the balloon or run water over it for that matter the water cannot pass through it as it is a watertight object.

An object that is airtight will not pass gasses nor liquids. On the other hand some gasses can pas through a watertight object.
>>
>>144121272
Because those are shitty balloons.
>>
What the fuck?
Are you saying that air simply comes out of the tub without water goes in?
So the inside of the tub become vacuum?

>>

Assuming the air inside the tub is enough for a single breath, or that you breath out outside the tub, then yes, technically you create a vacuum.
It also causes the tub to implode in your face.
>>
Stop rambling about water and talk about those sexy uniforms
>>
>>144122214
What the fuck is up with that hand
>>
>>144122140
If air hypothetically leaked out through a gap, first the air would expand and have a lower local pressure, up until the point in which it can't maintain it against the outside water pressure and water comes in from below.
