I get the feeling that those who tried were already dead and had accomplished nothing by the time Guts rolled up on his high horse.

I really like Farnese and I think Miura really spends a good time developing her, miles better of a character than Caska used to be. However, what potentially could make everything pointless is her being in love with Guts, which I thought she had forgotten about (that pannel where she thinks what Guts truly meant, when she decides to go back home) but when they're in the boat she keeps gazing at him and being sightly jealous about the attention he gives to Caska.

Like, what's the point of her liking Guts so much? Unlike with Schierke, she wanted to learn because she wanted to be useful and was tired of being ignorant, which makes complete sense for her character.
