The anime adaption was however quite enjoyable.

Never said she was obscure, just low profile. I mean the show's kinda dead since the manga's over and S2 never, and these threads rarely get more than like 50 replies. I know a lot of anons know about her, but most likely most have forgotten about her too.

I'll never forget Ika. I read a shitton of the manga in Japanese when I was first starting to learn to read the language so it's etched into my memory. It was a pretty fun read.

Never saw the anime though.

Dude, that's what I'm doing right now. I just need manga with furigana so that I can learn the language and the words before getting into kanji, and it's a great feeling learning that there is a decent SoL besides Yotsubato that's easy to read. I'll probably go back and read it again once I ACTUALLY know this stupid inbred islander language.

Also watch the fucking anime, it's pretty damn good. I've seen it twice, I actually think it's a lot better than the manga. There are a lot of emotional moments in the anime where Ika starts crying and it's genuinely saddening, where in the manga she just makes a sad face for a panel and that's it. Seriously, go watch it now.
