It wouldn't make an appreciable difference if it was simply the following year. The story would need to get ambitious and change tones if it would hope to accomplish something new.
Time skip to when the older kids have all gone off to Tokyo, leaving Renge as the only child for miles. It would be about the ways Renge occupies herself and copes with adolescence surrounded only by adults and the psychological effects.
But of course that wouldn't happen so it may as well be Re:Repeat.
