It might also be just nostalgia from growing up with shitty and badly translated jRPGs and living on FFXI for half a decade, but I really find the 'generic japanese fantasy world' really comfy. It's like McFantasy. Adding the realistic mythologies, such as the fact that most monsters are horrific rapists, just makes it all the more engrossing. It hurts we are only 2 Chapters in.

There was most likely other entrances and holes the goblins used to move about the cave. Not to mention if you did start suffocating them they would all rush the entrance at once. Notice even the pro goblin slayer divided and conquered the goblins, taking them apart in small pieces and using distractions, ambushes and traps to win. It would have been a lot harder to fight all the goblins at once.

I will say one thing about the story. Within the context of the world building no newby group would have made this decision nor would the guild clear it. Guilds exist to look after their members and with the slightest bit of effort they could have averted this disaster and retained members who would eventually grow to become assets.
Further if gobs are so common and so fucked kids wouldn't just casually assume it's a cool idea to fight them.
More effort needed to be made to establish their hubris. A few of them seemed to be over achievers who might make such a fuck up but the others are too grounded for that level of idiocy.
It is a flaw. It breaks immersion. However they've established the world now so we won't see shit like this anymore and it will likely be smooth sailing from here on.

To people here who expect more edge and rape later in the story, prepare to be disappointed.It became a pretty generic harem and fantasy, although the MC shows no interest in romance at all. There are no more major deaths and rapes except in flashbacks.
MC still manages to carry the novel though due to his pragmatism. There is a part where he has to fight off a goblin raid. Realizing he is outclassed, he humbled himself to the entire adventurer guild for assistance. MC is also not super strong, having to rely on preparation to win. There is a moment where he met an opponent he was not prepared for and got destroyed so hard he had to spend an entire night being healed by the priestess and another hero, only winning in a rematch where he was prepared.

I feel the Guild does not have a reputation to maintain. The fighters are not governed or controlled by the Guild. They aren't taught skills or trained. The Guild exists as an entity to enable the hunting of monsters. They cannot be held responsible for the actions of so many people going into combat in all kinds of situations.
A lot of this is handled by the ranking system. Only those who prove their mettle may advance. Those who give tasks or require adventurers for whatever purpose can therefore choose their adventurers carefully and be safe in the knowledge that the swords they hired know their shit.
The Guild's reputation is only at stake if they start giving out ranks to people who don't finish jobs properly or freeload. That's when it could become a problem for other people wishing to use the Guild and adventurers.

Sure, in any other guild, but adventurer guilds work differently, it's a common thing throughout all stories with adventurer guilds. They don't employ people and train them and prepare them for the job, like crafting guilds or merchant guilds, because unlike those, they don't lose any money from losing adventurers. If a group dies, there will be others to replace them, usually more competent and better equipped. Not to mention there job is more dangerous than a soldiers job, since they are super exterminators, if the guild really wanted to make sure their members remained safe, all the really dangerous monsters would be off limits. The fact is that people come to the Guild with requests with the expectation that they will be filled. It is in the Guild's interests to ensure that such requests will actually be filled, otherwise the clients will no longer trust them and their rep will go to shit.
I mean, you're pretty much proving my point when you say that people will lose faith in the Guild if they allow people who can't do the job to handle it.
That said, I agree that the Guild is not obliged to hold their hands, just make sure that whoever wants to do the job can actually do it. Infinitely if you write it well and you have a character study running on the side. Perhaps there were gobbos raiding he didn't know about. Perhaps one of them gets a lucky shot with a rock which allows another to bonk his head? Fights are fucked and unless you're perfect it's a dice roll.
Like with all dangerous professions it's when you think you know it that you get punished. Constant vigilance. GS could (and appears to have already) become set in patterns. Patterns fuck you when things get weird. Maybe the priestess does something odd, anything really.

Perhaps the Guild restricts sensitive requests to higher, proven adventurers. The goblins simply had to be slain, failure does not particularly worsen the situation. An escort quest or defending somewhere might be a different matter though.

You lose a porcelain, you have dozens of higher rank adventurers who can pick up the slack. You could have people like Goblin Slayer who, despite being high rank and highly skilled, determine to stick to low class work because they prefer the clean up. Besides, it's not like they are throwing hordes of porcelain adventurers into the maw's of death. If they lose five porc adventurers to a bunch of goblins, or dire wolves, it sucks, but it's not a huge deal, especially since a dozen other porc adventurers are still alive doing their job right and ranking up. Keep in mind that the Guild does offer standardisation in the form of rank plates and ranking quests. They're not going to stop you from taking a quest just because you could die. Most people probably stick to their levels and as a result succeed. Monster hunting is clearly a profession that is wide-spread and likely lucrative to the strong. There's also nothing saying you can't form a party of 30 to kill 20 goblins.
At the end of the day those kids died because they fucked up on multiple key points. It's not hard to imagine groups of mid-level adventurers who take rank and file in their stride. If those kids were serious about their craft, they could've joined with others or at least done their homework. It's their lives, this kind of shit shouldn't have to be fed to them through the Guild. I like to think common sense is not so much of a rarity amongst monster hunters.

Semi-realistic is shit like Overlord, possible GS and other series that establish a weird world but make reasonable connections between things.
Realistic is tethered greatly in fiction. For example if GS needed a horse to lug his armour and had a squire to get out of it. If he had a wagon filled with equipment because he maintains his shit on the road. If poltics interacted heavily with the killing of gobos. If a lot of the killing was because they were on property owned by nobles ect.
It's the difference between science fantasy and science fiction: details and internal logic and reasoning.
