Spoiler-free Rewrite synopsis for animeonlyfags:

Rewrite tells the story of Kazamatsuri Bond, a 27 year old agent of U.N. Special Ops (UNSO).
Bond was an edgy kid, he enjoyed killing bratty children's parents in front of them.
He fought the terrorists of the Greenpeace conglomerate with every drop of his blood, no matter how many dinosaurs they had.
Both factions were fighting over a nuclear device called the Lock, which could destroy the world.
During one such battle Bond was defeated, and put into a coma because of the nuclear device.

Now at age 27, after waking from his coma, Bond decided fuck it and to enter school again, because he still looked like he was 17 from nuclear radiation.
Well he actually has amnesia as a side effect, but he just wants to live it up at school like he never got to.
He wanted to get a girlfriend, mess with his best friend, join a club, become a TV reporter and grope some girl's tits.
To get all of this, he joined a club where he reported on Paranormal stuff with the other members.

Little did Bond know, the members were all undercover agents of UNSO and Terrorist Greenpeace!
His childhood friend also turned out to be the girl whose parents he killed. Apparently she resurrected them into plant zombies, because she's a magical sage.
One friend is a UNSO top agent, one friend has a servant who is Bond's alternative universe self, one friend is literally worse than Hitler, and one friend is a walking biohazard.

If that wasn't enough, the Lock turned up again, starting another war. The Lock is actually a cute deadpan girl, with an obsession for Bond. She sneaks into his bed at night and haunts him.
To top it all off, Bond's blood is now nuclear residue which he can shape at will!

Now Bond must choose a side, but no matter what happens, the earth is fucked either way.
Unless of course he can become a tree, build a canoe with his wood, fly it to the moon and terraform it. That would solve everything.

It's true that he can change depending on the branching, but you can also have a great story with a single ending that needs to be composed by going through multiple experiences (endings).
And let me tell you an example, ignorant.
Let's say we have this character who in order to clear his life purpose in the ending, he first needs to grow as a person. In other to develop as a person, he first needs to save multiple girls and make them truly happy which eventually leads to, let's say, seven different endings. But after each ending, the character gets thrown back to a checkpoint before the branching but retains his memories, his character development, because whoever is doing that to him needs him to have the development he needs from multiple endings while still being the same guy.

After you clear all the seven different endings, the main character can finally come to fulfill his life purpose because of the experience he gained in experiencing 7 different lives.

That's a pretty good story if you ask me, and while it had 7 different endings, in which we saw entirely different events in each of those, we still get a closure because we know it was all for a major good.

That is a great story so don't go writing bullshit if you don't read shit.

Examples of stories like this example I wrote are Rewrite, Muv luv, VLR, etc.

Some visual novels work this into the story, it's why time travel is such a common thing in vns. Because of varying shenanigans, you get to see the main character go through multiple different situations and circumstances, meet different people, be shaped in different ways, and then the final route usually has a MC that is the sum of all of these experiences. It's like accelerated character development.

Not really seeing the issue here. Granted it hinges on the strength of the MC's character, as in do we care enough to want to see 5 slightly different versions of him, but it's still him, it's just him reacting to different circumstances and ending up in different places.

It's a thought experiment in 'what if's. How much do single event end up shaping who we end up being.

No, it's used by several stories and more frequent than you think, but you not knowing that only proves you're the ignorant I think I'm replying to.

In VLR the mc actually needs to have access to memories from other dimensions or events(routes) in order to unlock or solve major problems from different puzzles in the story.

In Muv luv is used more like a timeloop, and there's also YUNO which is similar to VLR in how this elements is played.

There's actually a lot of VNs like this, they make out the most of the system of allowing the reader to choose the route and bring out great stories in the narrative.

But you're a fucking ignorant convinced that is not the case, and for that I'm truly sorry that you're missing out in such amazing stories.

Him pulling out some flashy moves even though he was acting like a perfectly normal dude and the reader/audience not even expecting it was actually used a plot device, and it actually is a plot device. It constitutes the protagonist's personality to a deeper level, but you can't expect that to be explained in only 2 episodes.
All you can infer from what happened is that supernatural things to occur and that the mc has some kind of power. The mc itself doesn't even know if he's unique or if there's others like him until much, much later, at the end of the common route which was half of the VN approximately.

Rewrite has one of the best common routes i've ever read so I was sad. Obviously some characters like chihaya and shizuru got the shaft, but at least from now on it will slow down. I love the show so far, the music makes me nostalgic.
