Erza uses a bunch of armors and swords that get destroyed to show how badass the enemy is and she just ends up using the Samurai one.

And Natsu takes the same amount of beating to then absorb and pull from his ass whatever he needs and beats his enemies with a punch to the face.

The manga's pretty fast; IIRC during Oracion Seis, the anime settled into ~2 chapters per episode, which felt about right.

That said, if you're looking for fanservice and animation, check out the OVAs or the movie. The TV series is pretty QUALITY early on.

The second series ended. It would have needed to go into a filler hell to avoid catching up to the manga in the middle of an arc again, so they ended it at the last good point for them to do so. A third series is in the works, but no details have been announced yet.

I think the main difference is that editors didn't meddle with Rave nearly as much. Mashima wanted FT to be a fun comedy adventure, but the editors keep pushing for more war shit even though Mashima refuses to follow through with any consequences for the characters.

Also, rave had a story that practically wrote itself. Haru collecting the Raves and destroying Sinclair was a very clear goal. Whereas FT is natsu looking for his dad, who is now dead.

It was nice that the 1st studio added filler to that fight with the 100 monsters with her using all of her different armors. Of course in the end she still used her hakama plus benizakura and dual-wield to win but it was a nice change of pace.

She does use other armours, but I do agree that I hate the fact that Mashima just ends every Erza battle with a one-shot with hakama clothing and benizakura. I want to see Armadura Fairy armour again.
