There was nothing wrong with. The entire reason Goku trained Gohan in the Cell saga is because he learned in a world where he just randomly dropped dead the world went to shit. He wanted to create safety measures in place by making Gohan strong, and later teaching Goten and Trunks fusion. It was probably the most responsible thing he ever did in his life. New Namek is NOT Namek, it's not in the same star system as the old one.
