And while she made friends with Clara she also got so sick she started sleepwalking and hallucinating. Grandpa had a bad backstory, everything was his fault for fucking up in his youth. Made me think that he couldn't handle people knowing and made his effort to give them reasons for believing that he indeed was a bad person.
In the book the "finds Jesus" via Heidi, I prefer how the anime toned down this.
