I'd say the worst offenders on this list are Hisagi and Aizen.

Royal Guard gets away with transcending bankai -- it's almost implied by Kubo that their abilities are Bankai before the name 'bankai' existed. Their specific abilities are satisfying enough to fill the slot of bankai (i.e. sharpest sword, healing water, ability to steal names).

It'd be nice for the other characters to get adequate reveals if only because it'd be fair, but it's not plot-essential.

Hisagi, though, literally had pages, pages that could've contributed to anything else, that could've taken away from Bleach's godawful pacing, pages explicitly stating that he was going to train his Bankai. Those pages are now irrelevant.

Aizen, meanwhile, deserved a Bankai because he was a major villain, and him not revealing a Bankai shows that Kubo wrote himself into a corner and literally had to make Aizen retarded and not try to hypnotize Ichigo just to let Ichigo win.

Bleach used to be my thing back in middle/highschool. I dropped it at the first """ending""" where ichigo lost all of his powers.I attempted to get back during the fullbringer arc but it was confusing and meh.

Is it worth getting back into Bleach just to see it through to Kubo's actual ending? Or is it fucking retarded and most of the non soul society/villain cast continue to get no screentime and are worthless.

Should I get back on Kubo's wild ride or wait/hope for an anime adaptation?

I'd be more than happy to, anon. First let's consider the opening to the Final War arc. Kubo spends a chapter -- not just a normal chapter, but a PLUS sized chapter -- introducing two powerless new shinigami just so Ichigo can save their lives. These two characters, who get screentime, contribute absolutely nothing to the plot and only take up space. What vital role did these characters play in the arc? What thematic value did they supply? Will we even see them again in these last five chapters? They were a complete waste of page space.

After defeating wrestling quincy, Renji goes to take a nap. There's an extended sequence of NaNaNa (Quincy with the weird mouth) spying on him and triumphantly announcing that he's going to kill Renji because he got to analyze him for so long. The literal purpose of this scene is to build hype, tension, hint toward a greater conflict. Needless to say he and Renji never fight and he gets killed not in a real battle where he demonstrates his abilities, but as a sneak attack.

It's fine that Nanana died in a sneak attack. What's not fine is that we spent actual page space with this interaction hyping him up for nothing.

If you reread the arc, you'll see way more than that, mostly Quincies that are hyped up and then foddered off, but also sequences where Kubo has Quincies and Shinigami begin to fight, with page space wasted to hype up these battles, only for the fights to achieve nothing as consequence and buy time for something plot-related to happen.

Remember, the condition was people had to see him reveal his shikai to in order for the illusion to work.
That water release that was thought to be the illusion might have been the real deal after all.

They were great to me and they made sense, since the Quincies' relationship with Soul Society was hinted at ever since the Soul Society arc.
Kubo just wasted potential a lot with them, half the Vollstandigs weren't even revealed, half the Sternritter died to Juha's plot beam, if Bleach really is ending completely in 5 weeks (no Ultra Jump/Jump SQ sequel) then it's just a huge bag of wasted potential.

Sort of like Yu Yu Hakusho, Kubo wanted to move away from a dichotomy of power levels and start introducing quirky, creative abilities that could defeat someone with strategies that went beyond 'muh reiatsu.' This was evident since the start of the Fullbring Arc.

Unfortunately, it turns out Kubo is absolute shit at thinking up unique, non-sheer force related abilities, hence nonsense powers like making imagination real, copying anybody and all of their physical/spiritual strength, and the last three villains all being literally immortal, all of which create bullshit fights that are frustrating and not satisfying to read.

He should've just stuck with really big swords.

To contribute to your main point too, the whole bankai stealing plotline came to fucking nothing in the end too. And obviously there's the fullbringers. And the giant dog was introduced out of nowhere for a powerup that could easily have been explained in some other, quicker, way.

I think one of the worst attributes of Bleach is the size of its cast. I have no problem with the pace, but the great number of characters make the whole of it seem slower and dragged out.

I think that if Kubo didn't have to listen to his editors and had any amount of time and pages to create his story, Bleach would be a masterpiece. Of course, you could say that of any manga, but I think Bleach is more particular about this because of the things you pointed out.

Having said that, the arc had its moments, and they were not few by any means.

Kubo was trying to tie up a bunch of loose ends, but he also just didn't have a coherent, streamlined narrative for the war itself, so it all got bungled.

Bankai stealing added a lot of hype in the beginning, but in retrospect it wasted a lot of chapters that Kubo clearly needs now. The Quincy were already strong enough without stealing bankais, all the stealing did was result in a bunch of meandering fights that went nowhere.

I'm actually okay with the giant dog because it provided some thematic closure for Komamura, who, bless his poor Aizen-strangled soul, deserves something after all these beatdowns.

The size of the cast definitely hurts it, but then there're series like One Piece which usually find a way to manage all their characters. It's the cast and Kubo's pacing with events -- Soul Society was great because it was stretched out over a long series of in-world time, whereas Hueco Mundo went from 'We've got to prepare for a war" to the war itself happening in like, a week.

I can't say how much impact the editors have had on the moments of shittiness, but it's clear some of it comes from Kubo mismanaging characters/pacing.

I fully agree that this arc had some really hype moments, which kinda makes me sad, seeing all the things Kubo could've pulled off but sadly never did and, at this point, never will.

The only thing preventing Bleach from becoming a masterpiece is the complete fuckup on Kubo's part to get the main team dynamic going.

Ichigo is completely bland and his only power is to swing his sword really hard or release his inner power (whatever that may be at any given time) which results in an insta-win for him.

His dynamic with other main characters is completely nonexistant apart from "gotta save you!" and "phew, glad I saved you". Or sometimes he gives them some sort of generic "good job guys" approving cocky smile. That's about it.
No sensible or interesting interaction with them AT ALL.

The whole manga is carried purely by the supporting cast and the curiosity of the reader to see them finally release their powers.

And the whole SK/SS lore is so thin it could be infodumped in one page if Kubo was pressed to do it.

Even the locations are moron-level reduced to blurbs.
The living world is just one neighborhood in a generic jap town, SS is just generic buildings in one city, HM is a desert with one palace and the royal realm is a floating palace with some other floating platforms around.

Given the number of chapters and shit pacing barely anything is explored to any reasonable extent.
