Shizuru's route was pretty terrible. The poor use of an extended "flashback" to instill a sense of mystery and drama was incredibly shallow, on par with the "mystery" in Lucia's route.

The two things that saved her route from being a complete pile of crap were the fact that Shizuru is honestly a cute and great girl, and the fact that diary scene at the end of her route was easily one of the the moments in the entire VN.

Fair enough, most of my love or the route does arise from the ending and simply her god tier character. But beyond the end of Kotori's, I despised her route. And moldy cheese is not my idea of a fun time. I kept thinking it was over and then oh, there's another damn oring fight, final being won by fire and nakama powers with Midou of all people. Don't give me any bullshit about character development because his was far too lackluster to justify that.
Lucy's was pretty good, though she got kind of retarded in the end. So, besides Terra and Akane's, I felt like Shizu's was the only one that really got close to that sickening feeling you get with Akane or the sheer despair at Terra. And it doesn't help I cried like a baby after that diary.

Just when you think anime hit the bottom with shit writing shallow generic shows, an example appears that something worse exists - a mess of a prepubertan gimmic comedy and tears "writing" of visual novels aimed at circlejerk neets fapping over little girls and thinking that shit medium is acceptable just because it hides under all ages tag.

Akane's route is good , but in terms of relationship I think it's lacking thus is behind Shizuru and Kotarou's married couple-esque relationship that formed before they realize it. The execution is so naturally between the two of them who hit it off well, able to act without reservation to each other. Their relationship happens via normal routine interactions and feelings that comes forth as their bonds becomes stronger. It didn't need sophisticated special events, drama, or conflict to cross the line, but only and simply pure bro-ness and comfy times.

They do have a relationship, much like every heroine have. But Akane and Kotarou needed special events and drama to help progress it (ex.Earth Dragon, death someone she loved, etc)). The romance didn't truly begin until Akane told Kotarou about her origin and past, which was during the timeskip, anyways. And then,, the final step when Kotarou faced off against Akane.

Yes, because akane's situation is pretty serious and so is Koutarou's. Shizuru's felt sorta mindless and happy-go-lucky. Akane's on the other hand bleeds into you.

It's fine for two people to gradually fall for each other for small little reasons or things , but that kind of format doesn't work too well in rewrite, unless its through the common route. In the heroine's routes the drama doesn't allow for much leeway when it comes to SoL-esque romance.
