Either or fills in the giant robot thirst in their own ways depending on how I feel.

If I want to see something more serious or at least an attempt at telling a war story Real Robot it is. When I want my dick to be blown away and my mind shattered by sheer spectacle, insanity, and (hopefully) fun characters I'm going for Super Robot.

tl;dr both are fine depending on my mood.

The more realistic, the better imo
The more extreme super robots don't really feel like robots anymore and stop being cool, like TTGL.
